  1. WOW, this is probably the best advice (price wise) for all my newbie questions to date I do realize this is not the time to purchase Peace or Morgans and I need to be satisfied that I completed both sets (but I want to upgrade some grades and mint marks) and not to strike it big LOL. Thanx again for the advice and help. I guess there are more dishonest people in the hobby than I realize (just like life )
  2. I really like Morgans, and I have been seeing some rolls for sale. They are listed as BU. I wasn't aware of uncirculated rolls that old (maybe re-rolled AU coins?). Please advise this newbie before spends a lot of money on searched and possible cleaned coins. Thanx
  3. WOW thanx for advice. Saved me a lot of money getting coin at a good price then paying for the ultimate let down of much lower grade at cross-over. Thanx so much fr advice.
  4. Hello all, another newbie question: I have seen some coins I want that are graded by NNC. Thoughts or opinions of these coin in comparison to the big 3. I'm not asking for an endorsement or rebuke of NNC just would a coin possibly sent for crossover (I wouldn't keep in NNC holder) could grade reasonable close? I realize I'm buying the coin and not the holder (and the.additional expense of cross-over). Thanx in advance
  5. As a new collector, I have noticed many times PCGS graded price is higher than NGC for same grade. I am looking at the 1946 to 1954 Booker Washington half dollars but I notice all NGC prices are higher (except 1951 Carver). Hope this isn't a dumb question - I'm just trying to learn difference in grading companies. Thanx in advance
  6. Hello all, I have been looking at Great Collections for selling and buying, and I was wondering exactly what is their CAC service (I've called and asked after reading online information but no clarity). What does this service do and why does it affect buying and selling prices ?
  7. Thanks for advice, I deal with Morgans, Peace and ASE's and I have to learn to accept small carbon spots on slabbed coins or sell them. I still will possibly get coins for my collection restored for eye appeal as needed but I will sell at discount and not try to improve resale value. Thanx again - I was just confused because Anacs only charges 39 dollars for multiple coins and PCGS & NGC charge per coin. THANX again
  8. Another newbie question .Are the services that TPG's offer for conservation or restoration service worth the money and/or really help value and eye appeal of coin ?
  9. Thanx that's what I was thinking (both are good & personal preference) and I definitely see the difference in sale prices based on "cult- Kool aid" Thanx
  10. Well unfortunately I will have to renew my membership for some raw coins I jut got. I went with ANACS after the membership lapsed. Now I need to renew - Any advice or suggestions from the experts: NGC or PCGS? Thanx in advance.
  11. Thanx I'm looking at these - the photos is off site. I'm "gun-shy" on photos after I got one with possible carbon spot (see post Morgan chase) on a graded coin. I really appreciate the input.
  12. Sorry I need a better phone and/or scanner, but this is the best. Would sending it for restoration help ? I guess this happens when buying online and people can crop photos Thanx for looking
  13. Just wanted to give the "Experts" an update on this newbie's quest. Thanx for all advice on Morgans and "the fact" its not a good time to start this quest, but this newbie didn't take the advice and went down the rabbit hole again (like I did with ASE 70 set) of trying to complete set. After a modest start of a few graded AU Morgans (which I flipped),I have entire set minus 1891, 1892, 1893, 1894,1895 and 1903 . I have been able to get all MS grades for less than NGC/PCGS online grading value and I realize inflation on Morgan current market. The only coin I am not thrilled about is below - thoughts? All said I feel good I'm researching some online auctions for remaining coins. Thoughts (including I'm spinning my wheels LOL) ?
  14. Correct - sorry for mis-communication. I still learning how to navigate this blog
  15. I'm sorry - I meant the online PCGS and NGC price guide. Although I have a Red Book and a Numismedia, its easier to go online ??
  16. As a reasonably new collector who only sells when upgrading a coin and mainly deals with eBay and great collections, any suggestions to these 2 thoughts . * When buying stick to a price of 75-80 percent of book value (unless it's a "must-have item). * When selling try to get 75-80 percent of book value or "break even". Obviously there are exceptions to this mind set, but I feel there is at least 25% of fluff in the hobby because of Non-collectors are just trying to make money (or are passing on eBay fees to buyer) Thoughts greatly appreciated.
  17. After calling them ; I found out the following : * Set is missing 1893, 1894 , 1895 and 1902 coins * all coins are Philadelphia mints except 1891 S I added up book values at 3395.00 (25% mark up) Coin collecting has lost it's hobby appeal and has become "BIG" business
  18. I thought it was too good to be true Upon investigation it's not L&C but LCR coins lol. I really don't understand "how these "fly by night" companies are allowed to misrepresent industry and stay in business
  19. L&C Coins has a complete Morgan set for 4995.00 ; it interests me because trying to get Morgans seem "price gouged" on eBay and great collections. Thoughts ??
