While in some, though not in all cases, Heritage allows consignors to place reserves, consignors are prohibited from actually bidding on their own
coins. And the reserves are disclosed.

    1. As far as I understand (and I've never done it, maybe MarkFeld can confirm), but a consignor may bid on his own coins. If he wins, he pays the buyers premium to compensate the auction house for their troubles.

    2. I don't know that Heritage has any set "cut-off". If they win a coin, their goal is to sell it for a profit by direct sale or in a further auction - so of course they are not going to place strong bids. I've never seen an actual percentage of retail limit, and I doubt one exists.

    3. Nearly every major auction house bids on their own lots, or reserves the right to. Its in the fine print, and if you have bid in many auctions then I can guarantee that they have been your competitors, up to a point. There is a thread about this every few months where everyone expresses shock and outrage, but this has been standard practice for years, and continues to be so.

You have not answered the question.

Others might want to better understand your "complaints," and to do that you have to supply specific incidents or other material to support your claims. Otherwise, they are no better than any other baseless claim, and of no value to anyone.

Interesting accusations. Can the OP provide more specific support for them? What about other major coin auction companies?

When I was a dealer other dealers asked me to bid in their eBay lots. There was no obligation for me to buy the lot if I won. I refused to place any of those bids, but this shows you how easy shilling is on eBay.

Because I really don't want you to know what coins I bought. It's none of your business. Ebay keeps everything anonymous as well. Are they rigged too?

Can you describe a "1922" proof? (high or low relief)
What makes you think your coin is a "proof." How were proof Peace dollars made?

ETA:  I did get the account back (I'd posted below, but figured the topic got more attention).

Well, this old Luddite decided to enter the 21st century.  I started a hobby Instagram with my starcityhomer name and another account for my pets about 5 days ago.  SCH was doing well, posted some of my nicer yen coins and had about 70 people either following or being followed.  Got a security warning and a message I needed to enter a security code sent via SMS.  No code arrived (and as a test I added the phone number to my pet account and no SMS would go through there either when I tried setting up two factor authentication).
After some painful loops of clicking for password recovery and repeatedly getting dumped in an unhelpful help section, I finally got to an option where an email recovery was sent.  Not my email.  No emails to me notifying me of a change.  Etc.  Tried using my email as a recovery input and was told the email was not associated with an Instagram account.  For fun I tried setting up a new account, nope that email is already associated with an account (not sure how both statements are true).
In any case, and the point of this, the starcityhomer Instagram is not under my control if it even still exists.  I know some of the people I connected with are over here.  So if you are getting weird things from that account, it's not me!  If by some miracle I get my account back I'll post.  And if I set up a new one I'll post that too.

The ONLY railroad to pass through Den'ts Run was an off shoot of the Philadelphia - Erie Railroad and it was called the Low Grade.  Now, what you have after reading this is two or three guys who worship Punxsutawney Phil and sample their own brand of Pennsylvania Mountain Juice.  They're out to get their 5 minutes of fame and nothing more.
On June 23, 1863, S. Wimmer came to Elk county as principal assistant engineer of the Pennsylvania company, to complete the Philadelphia & Erie Railroad from Whatham to Warren; of which E. Miller and Milton Courtright were chief contractors. In July, 1864, the road was practically completed; but not until March, 1865, did Mr. Wimmer sever his connection with the road, owing to his acceptance of a position as engineer on the Vera Cruz railroad, where the Wimmer bridge stands as one of the memorials of his work near La Cumbres de Maltrata. In March, 1869, he took charge of the building of the Benezette and Driftwood division of the Low Grade, and subsequently of the road from Benezette to DuBois, which was completed in 1874.

You are not alone.  Maybe I am old and old fashioned but for years I've been peeved at how the grading system has evolved.  Take for example the terms 'Proof Like', 'Deep Proof Like' and then 'Deep Mirror Proof Like'.  I feel if it isn't a Proof it isn't.  I believe that such terms are nothing more than 'Gradeflation' designed by dealers to line the pockets of dealers.  Just because the first few coins on a new run are pretty lets call them 'Proof Like' and get more money for them. The common collector won't know the difference.   It's a Mint State coin that looks good, has a certain eye appeal, that's all.  Sorry for the rant.

No need for Oak Island to move over; they’re doing this one concurrently. “The Learning Channel”, “History”, all these channels that cable cast this . They should just all be renamed “We Embarrass Ourselves #1” through how many other numbers they need. THIS is why we’re so dumb as a nation.

A VERY significant portion of Elk County’s population were guests of the Department of Corrections at SCI Ridgway. I believe it recently closed and the inmates moved to a more secure facility.
