I'm not sure if this is possible. (thread is 4 years old)...and I don't want to step on the OP's toes (it IS his thread)....but is it possible, and would it be better, if we dropped the word "Augustus" from the title subject ?

It's just that the coin is a Saint-Gaudens 1907 High Relief...no need for the "Augustus." (thumbsu

If the OP is still around here, maybe he/she can change it or ask a Mod to do so.

Nothing critical, just kinda weird to keep seeing the word "Augustus."  xD

I have looked at all of it - and noticed it took you 13 posts to show us this coin.  Get it slabbed and then show us 1 picture of the front of slab and 1 picture of the back of slab.

Going through his 6 pages worth of topics, I have counted at least 12 threads that he has started about this coin.

I’ve participated here, off and on, since 2002. I don’t recall having seen any heavy handed moderation during any of that time and don’t anticipate any going forward, either. So man up and fear not.😉

5 to 15 years ago, there wasn't much need for moderation.  Withing the last few years, the trolling, rude remarks and overall tone of the forum has drastically changed that.  With that said, the last week has been good.  Ironically, this happened right after dena bumped her thread, reminding people of the rules, and some people stopped posting.  It's  amazing that a few people can change the forum this much.   Thank you, dena.

A reminder seems to be in order....If you can't play nice, you can't play here......In the past we have spent time going through threads to remove the hostile posts that ruin a perfectly good topic. Going forward we will just delete entire threads. This doesn't mean that you'll be able to derail someone else's thread to get it shut down. This means that anything you've posted, good or bad will be removed.   If you can't leave your personal hostilities at the door, you can't post here.

    (1)  Wait a second Dena....if "going forward we will just delete entire threads" then you WILL be letting troublemakers derail threads.  If a troll hopped onto the Roger Burdette Saint Gaudens Book thread and you delete it, invaluable information is lost to all the innocent parties (and future readers) who can't see it.  This is why I asked about saving as a PDF a thread's content.

    (2)  I myself haven't seen anything that would rise to a serious TOS violation in the threads I am active in (admittedly, I can't read everything here).  I think it would be useful that if you see someone violating a TOS...post in the thread (highlight it in Red and quote the offending comments if you delete the original) and state that if a future post or comment violated TOS that a suspension will be forthcoming.

    (3)  Let someone know they have crossed the line.  Passions can get high, mostly on coin debates, but if things go off-topic or personal, give them a chance to correct the mistake.

    (3)  Whatever you do, please don't punish innocent posters/readers of these forums.  Deleting active threads or threads with fantastic information can simply not be replicated.  We have some VIPs who graciously donated their time to make fantastic comments (like RWB) and to eliminate their comments would be a crime.

Thanks for considering my views, Dena.  (thumbsu

I don't think this is what Dena has in mind.  I think she means all of the offending persons posts will be removed, when derailing someone's thread.

Any coin-like object that has wording claiming to be a product of the US Mint (or other countries) and NOT in fact made by the US Mint, is a counterfeit. The legal definition is of long standing and has been modified ONLY by HPA and its requirement for the word "COPY" to be stamped on a replica. Landis and other honest people understood that. The language is clear and unambiguous.

One of the benefits of this is to protect people from purchasing a "Fantasy" coin, thinking it's the real thing.  I realize Mr Carr discloses but, what happens when the buyer sells?   Is disclosure guaranteed?  They should have the word copy  stamped onto them.

I see this on posts where there are reactions:

    image.png

Is this what you mean? If you click on the numbers next to the icons you can see all who had that reaction. Are you not seeing that? If not, I'm wondering if it is something in the settings. Let me know if you don't see that.

    I'm not seeing that.

    I'm not seeing it, either.

  7. Dena:

I was wondering why we can't see WHO reacted to our posts?  As Goldfinger1969 mentioned, It is easier and cuts down on posts by simply using the reaction feature.  An example would be me asking a question.  When I received a reply, I could click thanks on his post.  That way the person could see that I am thanking him.  The way it is now, I would have to quote to be sure the person knew I had acknowledged his post.  As is, it is somewhat useless.

    lol I have 'landed'

So where does one go to, "learn the ropes?"

I actually do have access to a bunch of things that might benefit from grading.

What's weird is that I notice that this board has me 'stuck in time'...

It is utilizing one of my old avatars and my post count from a couple of years ago.  Interesting.

Yeah, I got my old avatar, too.  I think this is the learn the ropes section.

  9. That's really good info, comicdonna. On CoinTalk, when you ignore someone, it doesn't even show that they posted (there is a small, fine text at the bottom of the page that says some content was ignored, but that's it)

I have the unfortunate displeasure of still seeing MrMcKnow-nothing's posts when they are quoted, like yours above. I have to suffer through the threads where everyone is wringing their hands and beating their heads against the wall replying to him. It feels like I'm shoving hot pokers in my eyes, while any real issue or substance is ignored in the cesspool of his verbosity.

Despite the troll's insistence, I do not click on his posts... and yet I'm still subjected to their inanities.

This is so true! Even when someone is on "ignore" here, if someone else quotes them we all have to see that. For Mr. McKnow-nothing, these quoted replies are usually 3 city blocks long (he's quite a wind bag in replies), and thus they are hard to overlook when scrolling down pages to get to even the quoter's reply.

MrMcKnow-nothing is the textbook definition of an internet troll. Usually one can spot these kinds of folks because they almost never post original threads or their own content -- they just hop around to other people's threads posting extraneous and off-topic nonsense. It's really humorous how these trolls are also so often self-proclaimed "moderators" of the boards, an apparent compensation mechanism for their own iniquities and lack of self-control.

Reminds me of a character we had on these boards a few years back named "noow" -- though that poster wasn't long winded, just disrupting.

Too bad Arch couldn't patch this info into the boards ignore system. Although, there's been talk for a while about a new forum. Maybe it will have a better ignore feature.
