VKurtB got a reaction from GoldFinger1969 in Is there a guide on grading MS coins?
What I did find in Berlin was no shortage of world collectors who were eager to discuss their views on TPG. There is sufficient “blame” to go around. I noticed that past German collectors tended to be very fond of polishing their coins. It was uncommon to find anything more than a few decades old that had NOT BEEN harshly cleaned. Toning was nearly completely absent. There simply are VAAAAAAST differences in collecting cultures. What we regard as “normal”, or even virtuous, is regarded with disdain over there. So called “great” collections headed for the international (including U.S.) auction block, and therefore headed for NGC or ₽¢G$, frequently come back with a clear majority of coins in Details holders. A typical German collector with a coin with peripheral rainbow toning will want to polish that “junk” off the coin and return it to blast white status. I spent a good amount of time at the hotel bar discussing these things with a VERY august international group, including the owner of MA-SHOPS. (I bought the first round of 0,5 liter beers.)

VKurtB got a reaction from Henri Charriere in What is "Natural" or "Original" Toning as Opposed to "Artificial" Toning?
#MeToo. If I believe a coin has had “help” becoming toned, EVEN IF UNINTENTIONAL, to me it is artificial toning. I don’t give a singular 💩 what any grading company does or does not say. I reserve the EXCLUSIVE right to make my own determinations regarding artificial toning. Hint: Yes, this means ALL brightly colored ASE’s are, by definition, artificially toned. Only edge darkening is even slightly permissible. Some edge darkening WILL happen to virtually ALL .999 or higher silver coins, even with industry standard storage methods. One literally CANNOT achieve brightly colored ASE’s without “better living through chemistry”.

Please. Florida State CLEARLY deserved the No.4 seed in football. It’s not even arguable. And I have a “Roll Tide” license tag on my car.

VKurtB reacted to RWB in I am buying this coin convince me not too. I am high bidder and will bid up to $1200.00 My current winning bid is less than half of $1200.00 36hrs till hard close. My assigned grade is private but it's pretty high grade. Mistake? Steal? Break even? lol
Now think....why would such a "nice" coin not be in a legitimate TPG holder with a cute smiley-face sticker?
The contrast has been exaggerated so the fields look black and relief almost white - not normal for a coin of that era, except for a few carefully maintained pieces.

This is part of how a convincing scam artist runs a good scam, you have to convince the mark that you are legit.   How better to look legit than to offer a generous return policy and work with ebay to remove any neutral or negative feedback so you keep your feedback score looking pristine.   The reason this seller offers such an outstanding return policy is because they know some of the coins they sell are going to be returned, this helps them to avoid or have ebay remove any negative feedback.
All I can say is that I've provided plenty of warning on this seller, anyone that buys from them deserves what they get.
Edited to add: @Jason Abshier looking at an ebay sellers feedback score is useless if you don't do some digging.   Here is a screenshot of Denver Coins Co feedback, take note of the 4 neutral ratings in the past 6 months, if those were not removed for the seller by ebay the score would be less than 100%.   Then take a close look at the bottom right of this screenshot, see the verbiage that says revised feedback and that number is 74.   That means that 74 buyers left something other than a positive feedback rating which they changed, why it was changed we do not know.

Bobby, let me be as direct as I can. The vaaaaaast majority of posts DESERVE NEGATIVITY. They are THAT stupid. Most posts, especially, in the Newbie section, are so utterly inane that showing ANY positivity is doing the new collector no service. None at all.
People who go to discussion boards FIRST, before basic guide books, are actually ANNOYING, once it becomes a pattern. When I have a question, I STILL go to printed sources first, even now. The Internet is a “hot mess” when it comes to numismatics.

The Crimson Tide basketball team ACTUALLY DESERVE their Final Four berth.

There is not such a group because the vaaaaaaast majority of dealers don’t want one. There are more scammers than honest people in this biz. It’s why I NEVER EVER EVER buy online anymore, other than from mints or “bullion priced” items. I have rejected FOMO for life. Worse is FoBS - fear of being umm, wrapped helically around an axis.

The counterpoint to that excellent reasoning is that the ASE remains BY FAR the most frequently encapsulated coin by NGC. And it’s not even close. Yeah, I don’t get it either, but it is what it is. SOMEBODY surely does love the 💩 out of collecting the things.
