I understand. And believe me, I can relate and empathize!
On most days, I receive multiple inquiries of the type you mentioned. I’m an expert...unless or until I tell someone something they don’t want to hear. You know, like that their coin with random circulation marks isn’t covered with letters, numbers or amazing images. And/or that their pocket change isn't worth hundreds, thousands or even millions of dollars. At that point, I”m sometimes told that I don’t know what I’m talking about.😉
As just one very recent example of the “fun” I have...I received an email from someone purporting to have a 1943 copper cent. The coin was indeed a wheat cent. But it had a hole in it, which included the area of the last three digits of the date.
Still, no matter what the question or comment, I try to be polite and helpful. It’s not always easy.

any idea how quickly these guys reach breeding age?  I'm afraid we might be on the verge of a population explosion and may need to actively thin the herd.  Can we get some volunteers to start up YouTube channels with actual legit info & discussions?  It's the only way to reach them.  Plus, there's been plenty of times where I was like, "I wish I could just watch a tv show about coins that isn't just Rick Tomaska selling MS61 double liberty's (liberties?)."

That's a tricky one, Coinbuf....I know that well from my days at the brick and mortar.  There are people who wouldn't believe that the 1911-S in that grade handily outclasses the 1909-SVDB in the same grade, but it does easily.  And the coloration is great!  Well done!

Well, in looking at your coin and the photos in the link, I think it could be the variety you think it is.  It looks like most of the die markers are there, based on your photos.  But, that said, this is a pretty minor variety and while I'm quite versed in varieties on Memorial Cents as I sell modern US coins, I'm not as well versed on Wheat Cent varieties, so I'll feel more comfortable with the attribution when and if someone who is more versed in this area than I am confirms it.

Agreed with Greenstang on all points, TON.  Not a DD, but definitely a nice looking 40% Proof Ike.  They often look pretty dreadful.....yours is quite nice.  Great coin even without the DDR!

    Hi Mason,
Well....it looks like you have an actual error coin on your hands!  Congrats!  Now, onto the coin.  I think what you have there is a misaligned die error, since the obverse is off-center but the reverse looks like it's a bit off-centered, but I don't know if it's significant enough to be classified as a full off-centered coin.  It's a pretty cool find.  Though I'm usually not a fan of the other coin boards out there (I used to be a member at a couple of them and I wasn't a fan of either), this post from Coin Talk was written by Physics-Fan 3.14, who is an esteemed, respected member here, so I'm sure this post from 2009 is good stuff.  It explains misaligned die errors excellently:

Congrats on your find!  And, thanks to Physics-Fan 3.14 of a decade ago for the great information!

Mohawk got a reaction from orientalband54 in Registry points
    Hello and Welcome!
Registry points are just the points that NGC assigns coins that are entered into Competitive Sets on the NGC Registry.  These points are only used to score coins, Competitive Registry sets and a Registry collector's overall score on the NGC Registry.  Of course, the highest scored sets can win awards on the NGC Registry.  That's all that Registry points do.
    I hope that this helps!

Well said, TON.  And as a newbie here, I too value their input and really appreciate the thoughtfulness they put into their replies.  I have found on many sites that knowledge and thoughtfulness in replies are often inversely related - the people with the most knowledge tend to be -ish and clique-ish with their replies.
So I’ll echo TON’s praise and thanks.

I got lucky with mine.  It was in need of repair and past its usable life at my office, so I was able to get it gratis, not including repair parts,

I think for most coins, more power would be better.  The exception would of course be something that is being held together predominantly by the crudation and/or heavy corrosion.
Unless you’re doing a metric -ton of coins, smaller might be useful.  The one I’ve got is 8 quarts, I think, and is a pain for just coins.  Fortunately, I have a variety of items that need larger capacity.
A few options that I like are:
    - heaters - Nice to keep the solution (if you’re using something more than distilled water) hot.  Makes it more efficient.
    - timer - so you don’t have to baby sit it.  Probably not necessary for coins, but I like to not having to worry about leaving it actively running.   The transducers have a lifespan... longer than you’ll probably ever need, but no reason to stress them unnecessarily
    - basket(s) - I probably wouldn’t put a nice coin straight into a basket, but they’re nice to keep stuff off the bottom of the reservoir.  Sometime I put something in that is to heavy to float just from the air in the ziplock
    - variable power - in case you have some more delicate pieces.
Industrial / lab surplus sales can be a good source for non-crappy units.
A word of caution - you may run across and be tempted by “de-ionized” water.  It sounds super cool and super pure.   Don’t use it.  It will actively dissolve your coins, copper in particular.  I may grab some from work and dunk a penny in it.  I’ve seen it destroy equipment, but I’ve never tried to quantify it with an experiment. Should be fun.

Thank you for the kind words, but I absolutely DO NOT want compensation of any kind for the posts that I put on here. I appreciate the thought, but, again, please don't.
As for your '73-S Ike dollar: those are some really clean surfaces, judging by the pictures. That is not something that you usually see on these coins. If it was a Denver or Philadelphia issue, I would say it might be worth a shot at trying for a grade of MS67, but the S mints are common enough in that grade that it wouldn't be worth the money, IMO.

I had the same thought as well. I didn’t respond because I thought the OP had already sent it in. The holograms on the no line fattie holders are more often than not damaged. This should not negatively impact the value of the coin and the older holder may even command a slight premium under certain circumstances. I personally would leave it as it is.

    Farthing,
You're not the first person I've heard of that has had these problems with PCGS and conder tokens.  Though I know very little about conder tokens, I do know that they're just one area where PCGS doesn't do so hot with non-US coins, tokens and medals.  PCGS seems to get things more or less correct with US material, but I'd definitely avoid them for non-US material.  I'm sorry to hear about your experience.  It really sucks to think you're getting that rare piece for your collection only to have it show up with an unexpected, unpleasant surprise.  Can you return it to the seller?  I would contact them and see what they can do....maybe you won't be stuck with it.  Though there are people on here that are still complaining about NGC's decision to disallow PCGS coins in their Registry Sets, things like this show what a correct and wise decision that truly was.
Best of luck.  I really hope you're not stuck with it.

Thanks for the closer up photos Krzycoins.  That confirms it to me.....definite machine doubling.  If you look closely, you'll notice the shelf-like nature of the doubling.....that is a textbook diagnostic of machine doubling.  If you check out the article I posted a link to in my previous reply, all of this is explained there in a much better way than I could ever accomplish.

I've seen a lot of them. Sometimes bronze coins just tone up that color. If I had to guess, I'd suppose it was an environmental specificity (pocket of person with certain kind of skin chemistry, laid around awhile adjacent to some type of surface or air quality).

You guys are unbelievable and really baffles me how you take the time to follow through with answers to questions asked on here in fashionable time and preciseness. These guys should be the ones getting a check at the end of the month for there services not these YouTube guys who love to hear themselves talk. JK, Not all of them are so bad. But my point being the way you provide your services is like having a private teacher or successor. I know one thing if I see you guys at a coin show the beer is on me. Not really a drinker but will make a exception. But In all seriousness we need to figure out some type of compensation through this forum for you guys in some manner of rewards or something along those lines. If anyone on here agrees with me and thinks these guys deserve more then the hell they catch on here and keep pounding away for us educated listeners and willing to learn mind sets send me a message or note of any type and get something done for them. Have saved me a lot of money from submitting coins that I would of submitted if they had not stepped in. These guys have nothing but the best intentions so listen to there advice. They have not let me down yet
