    Nice Welcome home gift
    Just returned from a trip to the Windy City and found these 2 gems in my mail pile.
    The 95 Silver Kennedy has been a tough find in recent months that wasn't "above" FMV.
    Also was nice to add another MS70 to the Silver Eagles.
    Took a few items to my local coin store last week and "sold" em. I get a much better selling price there than at the Bay and there are NO shipping charges. The guy who runs the shop has been in coins and stamps for almost 50 years. He really knows his stuff and everytime I go there, it's an education. He doesn't "visually grade" for customers anymore as his eyesight isn't what it used to be (I'm there with ya buddy) but the knowledge inside is amazing. He's just a small shop (not one of these large mail order box shops) but the kind you find on a small back street or in an alley. The display cases are worn well but the glass is still nice and clean, the floors are wood from what seems like 80 years ago and the odor of vintage items is everywhere. His safe is huge and worn as well and looks like it came from the 20's or 30's. Too bad there are not more of these around any more. Going in there is like going back in time. I'm sure some of you older mates know what I mean.
    Till next time

    Mint made a goof
    I'm sure everyone received an e-mail from the U.S. Mint stating that their order for the 2010 ASE Proof Coin was sold out and their order was cancelled. I just got off the phone with the Mint and this was a computer generated error. So disregard and let out that sigh of relief,

    Everything back to normal
    Received an e-mail this morning from Dena stating she was having the software engineers looking into the value changes.
    Just checked and ALL values are "Back in Black" (sorry couldn't help myself - AC/DC) and back to the values where they belong.
    I knew moderns couldn't have devalued like that.

    What happened to values .....
    Greetings all;
    I came here early Friday afternoon and checked my Kennedy's and ALL the FMV of every coin was now in red and only a fraction of their FMV from the day before. Then went to my Ike's and the very same. I called NGC and talked to Lisa and she was not aware of what was going on but passed on the info to higher ups. Still haven't heard back from anyone but is anyone else experiencing this phenomenon ?

    1996 Silver
    Finally have gotten around to replacing my 1996 PF69UC with a PF70UC.
    Have been busy going off in other directions for awhile so it was nice to get back to my Kennedy's at least for 1 coin.

    A really nice postal clerk
    Spent the better part of last evening going through the coins I was getting ready to submit to NGC for grading. Got em all packaged up and called it a night knowing I would take them to the P.O. tomorrow (today). To my surprise when I arrived at the P.O. on this side of town it wasn't busy (unusual) so I went right up to one of the service stations to send off my box. A lady clerk was waiting on me and when I told her how much I wanted to insure for and with postage I was taken aback with the charge. Wow !!! Then out of the blue she offered to repackage my shipment so I could send it registered and cut my total bill in half that way. As most know sending registered you have to use that brown reinforced tape on all open seams. So she assembled all the necessary items and together we proceeded to "repackage" my shipment. I was so thankful for her taking the time and going the "extra mile" to assist me. I don't know about any others P.O. but the one I go to is usually so busy and that is with 5 service clerks working at the same time. Maybe it was that they weren't busy, but no matter, I won't forget the fantastic lady clerk that helped me get my shipment out to NGC today and at half the cost.

    It was a very good year....
    Greetings all;
    I am fortunate to be able to upgrade another one of my Kennedy's. This time around it was the 1983. This was a very good month for me as I added or upgraded a number of coins. Now that the funds are dry, (choke, choke) It's off to work we go......
    Good fortune to all

    Today I upgraded two Kennedy's in my Collection. A 1977 and a 1978. Both are PF70DCAM. Still have another upgrade coming and should arrive this week.

    Do yourself a favor
    Ok, this morning I'm kicking myself for NOT following my own advice and because of it I had to do extra work. Last week I won a "lot" (one Kennedy) at one of the on-line auction houses. I had been "tracking" this coin for a week in advance. They had the photo's of the coin both obverse and reverse. So the day of the auction arrives and I submitted the winning bid. I waited all week for my new Kennedy to arrive as I was sure to be proud to add it to my collection. Well the coin arrived and it looked so sharp. I entered all the info for the coin here on Saturday and since it was a PCGS coin it would have to wait till today to be verified. I received an e-mail this morning from NGC stating the coin was now registered in my set. Only problem was NGC verified the coin as a PF69DCAM and the label on the coin said PF70DCAM. Just great. (I left out a word before great) So I go to PCGS site to verify the coin for myself (I know) and there it was PF69DCAM. Under the heading for verification is something along the lines that state: errors sometime occur when entering info for a particular coin and if you find a discrepancy please contact us. I did and PCGS advised me to send it back to the auction house and have them resubmit it to verify the grade.
    I called up the auction house and they asked me if it looked like a 70 to me. Ah right, don't they know all my coins look like friggin 70's. (what a question) What I really told them was I'm no grader I wouldn't know a 69 from a 70 unless it said so on the label. So they informed me they have some ex-graders and they would look at it and see if it really was a 70 or 69. If a 70, they would submit it to PCGS to get it corrected. "But", aw cmon, you had to know a but was coming. It would be easier to just return the coin and they would issue me a refund. Like this particular Kennedy comes around for auction everyday ! So I mailed it back today and am expecting a refund but hoping to get the coin back with the correct cert. # and grade I thought it was going to be in the first place.
    So I really blame myself for this mess as I should of verified the cert. # in the first place as there was plenty of time to do it.
    So let this be a lesson to all. If you can, ALWAYS check (verify) the cert. # is the actual coin you are buying.
    That is also why I am leery of purchasing coins say on the Bay when it is listed as a "STOCK" photo and the cert # is blocked out.

    A great looking coin for a modest price
    Greetings once again,
    Well as luck would have it, I acquired this 1979 Type 1 Kennedy in PF70UC on the first of the month. I say luck because it was one of those things that you bid an opening bid on and no-one else made a bid. I was in total shock when I received an e-mail informing me I was the winning bid. I couldn't get it paid for fast enough. It arrived in today's mail. This acquisition really made my month.
    Hope everyone had a great Labor Day.

    Will they or won't they ?
    Placed a call to the Mint tonight to straighten out a shipping problem and during my conversation, I asked about the ship date of Silver American Eagles (Proof) The customer service rep whom I was talking to laughed (she then said, "excuse me I forgot to push the mute button") and told me she too is a collector of these fantastic coins. I then asked if there was STILL a shortage of Silver for the program and she said YES !!! My next question was when will the "Official" word come out about it. She advised me to call back this Wednesday or Thursday evening and they would at that time probably have the official word. So, to me it looks like everyone can forget about SAE Proofs again this year. I will post any updates I hear of.

    Just a thought......Will suspending the production of these again increase the "value and market presence" more so than normally experienced ? Just a thought......

    My first "Plus" acquisition.
    I really got this at a great price what with having a premium because of the (+). This is 1 of 2 Morgans that have been given a (+) for this particular year and mint.
    I try to follow the Official Red Book Guide to Morgan Silver Dollars when acquiring Morgans and this particular year it stated an MS64 was the optimal collecting grade to acquire. So with the (+) I figured it would be a big positive.

    Predictable outcome you might say
    Greetings once again all;
    Well much has transpired since my last post. I did file a formal complaint as I stated. After that, the individual who used "my coin" cert. number in his listing wrote and threatened to sue me for slander. Honest to God I kid you not. His message went on to state how he had won all these numerous lawsuits etc. Oh it gets better...
    So I talked to E-Bay for the second time last night and the lady from E-bay said she would expedite my claim to the proper Dept. because this was a direct violation of their policy. (I had submitted the listing number this person was using and a copy of my photo showing the cert number, date I purchased it, and date I registered it here at NGC in my collection.
    (Now this seller is a power seller with almost 20000 feedbacks)
    This morning I sit down at the PC with my morning juice to read the mornings e-mails. Low and behold is one from the department that is handling my complaint. Get ready now.........
    E-Bay basically told me to put "watermarks on my photo's and they couldn't do anything to this person because the photo used in the listing was (their term) OFF SITE !!!!!
    Basically since he is a power seller and pays big bucks to the Bay they were not going to mess with him. UNBELIEVABLE !!!!!!
    So, I said a few choice phrases and then I let it go.
    This evening the seller writes me AGAIN !!!!
    (I did provide him the listing number earlier in question since he had over 3000 coins for sale so he could see the cert. number) and he says yes, I own this coin and have it in hand. Now this was the coin he supposedly "sold" to the individual who tried to register it earlier this week when all this began.
    I think someone is, as Helen Reddy sings "a little touched you know, Angie Baby" ......
    To summarize, my dealings with the Bay will be very minimal or not at all and I am done selling there as well in the foreseeable future.

    More info just in
    As I am sure many of you are following my first post on this matter (Well This Is New) I contacted the NGC member who tried to register my coin. He did respond in a timely manner and what some of you surmised is in fact true. They purchased the coin on E-Bay from an NGC dealer and they used the cert number from the photo to go ahead and register the coin before they received it in hand. Of course that is when it came back to them that it is already registered to me. The seller on E-Bay, what I was told, took the photo I have posted here in my gallery and used that as a stock photo in their ad. I will not post the name of this seller in public as I am in the process of filing a complaint against them with E-Bay for a few violations, one being fraud. (Yes I have already had one discussion with E-Bay and that is one area (fraud they will pursue against this seller, amongst other violations) But if you would like to know the name of this seller you may contact me privately as you yourself might have had a photo of one of your coins copied and used on E-Bay. (this is not a small scale seller but a large seller) I for one always check the cert number of a coin if listed in the ad just to verify and am somewhat wary when the cert number is "blocked out" or it states "stock photo" cert number might be different. To me that raises a red flag immediately. There will be more to this drama and I will post as it unfolds. Again feel free to contact me if you have specific questions but I will not divulge the name of the party that was trying to register the coin here in question as it seems clear they were in no wrong.
    Stay tuned

    Talked to Amy
    I decided to give Amy a call this afternoon to see if there was anything else I needed to do besides "reject" the request. She told me no and also stated that this kind of mistake happens "all the time". I have since contacted the individual who was trying to register my coin to see if they could shed some additional light on where they acquired the coin and was that in fact the exact number as displayed or was it a typo?

    never happened before
    Just received an e-mail that another member here is trying to register one of my Kennedy's. Usually it is the other way around when you purchase a coin and the seller hasn't removed it (unregister it)from their set.
    Could they have entered a wrong number (I checked their collection and they are in need of this particular coin) ? Don't want to think somebody is trying something shady, but has anybody else had this happen to them ?
    Please let me know if you had had this happen to you and the outcome.

    when you aren't adding to your collections
    Greetings once again. Well, it had been sometime since I last added anything to my collections so I fed the monster that resides inside all of us and purchased this 1921 Morgan. Nothing monumental but a nice "gem" Morgan that filled an open slot. Guess my honey-do list just grew some................
    best to all

    It has been awhile since I was last here
    Greetings my fellow numismatists. Well it has been some time since I've last posted a journal and sometime since I have acquired a coin for my collections. As most of you know I moved this Spring and it has taken some time and funds to get settled into the new "digs". My attention has been on designing and building my "Home Theatre". I almost have it complete. I am using a new InFocus projector, with a 92" diag. screen. Controlled lighting, etc. Still have to get it carpeted, (next week) but it is slowly coming together. By the way, I am selling my other Home Theatre system (InFocus projector and a DaLite 92" pull down screen for a great price if anyone is interested in watching HD TV or DVD movies on a BIG SCREEN !!!!
    contact me for details.
    I have read most of the recent journals. Interesting reading.
    Looks like it will be awhile before I get back in the game as I need to replenish the funds.
    I wish everyone good luck in filling those slots

    A great program I give a hearty thumbs up to !!!!!
    Reading the journals on photography of coins I feel compelled to share this tidbit of software kingdom to all who aspire to take your coin photo's to new heights. Aannnnnd it is FREE for the taking. The program is Photo Pos Pro
    I have been personally using this program for two years and it just keeps getting better and better. The GUI is simple, if you want it will show you how to accomplish an end result and upgrades are also FREEEEEEEEE.
    Since there is a max limit on size of photos here at NGC, this program will reduce the "size" of your photo but not lose any detail in accomplishing this. (Fantastic, this little bugger is)
    Below is the link for this program. You will want the Photo Editor.
    http://www.photopos.com/
    if site is down you can download it from CNET at this link:
    http://download.cnet.com/1770-20_4-0.html?query=PC+Pos+Pro&tag=srch&searchtype=downloads&filterName=platform%3DWindows%2CWebware&filter=platform%3DWindows%2CWebware
    Check out any of my coins, "most" were edited with this program.
    I also shot most with a Canon EOS Rebel XS mounted on a tripod with 10 second timer set and NO artificial lighting. Using an 18-55mm lens. Some I used a polarizing filter and some I didn't need it. But all in all, I am always happy with the results.

    I know some won't be into photography as much as others and I'm sure some are into more than I, but again, do yourself a favor and save your money and get this program.
    Great shots

    Finally back to feeling the need
    Greetings all;
    Well the move is over and we aren't living out of boxes any longer, amen !!!!!!!!!!
    I have the new house networked (hard wired of course) with Cat 6 cable and a new DocSis 3.0 modem for screaming bandwidth.
    Just finished reading all the journals to get caught up. Some good ones I will admit.
    Also checked out the E-Bay scene and was somewhat surprised at what was being bid on a few Kennedy's. A few bids are way over the top on a couple of coins. Either inexperience bidders or they don't care what price they pay, but it's cool as it helps drive the value in the long run I guess.
    A lot of you have some great new acquisitions. I have checked a few coins out that I am still looking to upgrade but in no hurry. Just feels good to be "back in the saddle" again.
    Continued good luck to everyone but most of all have fun with it!

    Another beauty added
    Greetings all;
    Today I added another PF70UC Kennedy to my set. A 1993 Silver. I had been watching for one to come along at a decent price that wasn't inflated by E-Bay bidders. Paid over $50 less than the last one that sold there. So happy about that.
    Will now put coin acquisitions on hold for brief time as we are moving and everything is getting boxed up.
    Good luck to all in your acquisitions

    This is a really nice Mint State 65
    My latest purchase arrived today. An 1879 S Rev. of 79 Morgan Silver Dollar in MS 65. I am really pleased with this acquisition as this coin is super in appearance.
    So another new neighbor arrives in "Morgan Park" and we welcome him with open arms !!!!
