  1. INB was a self-slabber who sold on Ebay a while back. Lots of cleaned or circulated coins sold as MS 70, etc. Treat any coins in those holders as if they were raw and possibly problem coins. It may be possible to cherry pick varieties, but be wary of the condition and pay accordingly.
  2. It is likely your coin was removed from something like this (picture grabbed off Ebay):
  3. The overall look of the coin makes me think it is stained, and not missing the outer clad layers.
  4. The coin looks like it is in some kind of mount. What is that?
  5. And I thought I was bad about putting things off until later! You are hereby proclaimed Emperor Procrastinatorius, leader of the Putter-Offers.
  6. Please post a link to the auction. I love a good success story, and I want to follow these coins and see how they do.
  7. I have a feeling that the OP will be placed on numerous "ignore" lists after this thread. Sad, really.
  8. I agree with Sandon. The presence of the Blakesley effect leads me to believe that this could be the real deal.
  9. I picked up this quarter eagle for my oldest grandson's 18th birthday. He was an avid collector when he was younger, even joining the coin club in the city where he lives. Then he discovered girls and high school basketball, and his coins were put by the wayside. He even sold a bunch of his Morgans to fund his new interests. He has always wanted a gold coin, though, so I decided years ago that I would get him a nice one when he turned 18. I started to get him one from 2005, his birth year, but I decided to go one better and get him one from one hundred years earlier. Thank you to Mark Feld of Heritage for his assistance in securing this coin.
  10. In my opinion, the best thing about these coins is that they were handed down from your grandparents. Aside from one oak table that belonged to my father's grandmother, I have nothing from any of my ancestors other than my parents.
  11. The reason it seems all over the place is because it actually is. People send in coins to have graded for a lot of different reasons, some of which make little sense to some of us. In order for members to give you a proper answer to your question do you mind telling us the reasons you want to send your coins in? By the way, it may surprise you to learn that there are members of this forum who have been collecting for decades, and have never sent a coin in for grading.
  12. I believe you are referring to a different thread about a different coin, by this same OP. This one, as a matter of fact: Click here for the other thread
  13. I would have been happy just to have found the two large cents. Finding that Connecticut copper is icing on the cake. Congratulations! Have you had it stored away for the last 45 years, or do you take it out and show it to people?
  14. Gotta love those old holders. That one is a looker!
  15. Special mint sets, struck for collectors as a poor substitute for proof sets, were only made in 1965, '66, and '67. Are you looking for cameo examples of the SMS coins?
  16. Your pictures aren't showing up, at least on my laptop. Also, you may want to re-post this in the US/World coin forum, since this forum is for questions about the NGC registry, and is not viewed by very many members.
  17. Welcome to the forum. As Greenstang said, your coin was damaged after it left the mint. Examples like this are posted on here every now and then. The theory is that the coin was caught between the inner and outer drums of a commercial dryer, and was worn down into its current shape. You can do an internet search for "dryer coin" and find numerous examples.
  18. Welcome to the forum, Eric. Sorry to burst your bubble, but your first instincts were correct. Your cent is damaged. From the pattern, it looks like the damage was caused by the jaws of a bench vise. What does the obverse look like? And. do you have a link to the information about the cent struck on the rupee? Never mind. I found it. https://www.ngccoin.com/news/article/5364/
