Won the auction but did not get the coin!

Won the auction, paid for it and the next day was told the seller canceled the auction!? This is just another example of the weirdness that is out in the online auction world! Yes I won an online auction the other day, paid for it and then the next day the seller sent an email and canceled it out from under me! I have never had this happen to me before and am upset that it is allowed at all! Ebay has rules about the binding contract you enter into and all, but this is just silly! One reaso

Notice, registry/ cert. number not valid PART 2

update on the registry cert. problem. If you read my previous Journal I suggested a way to check a coin cert. number. I did not think of the effect of having a person who has that coin listed and how NGC might remove it from the real owners list. To avoid confusion in the future do not add and remove coins from your sets unless you have the coin in hand! Enjoy your collecting and thanks to all the people who offer there comments. I enjoy reading all of them and learning something everyday.

Notice, registry/ cert. number not valid

While watching an auction on ebay, checked the cert. number and found.... and how to fix this! While watching an auction on ebay, checked the cert. number and found....Nothing? When I see a coin auction on a nice coin from an unknown seller, what is one to do? To help prevent the selling of fake coins, should all grading companies allow us to look up and verify? THIS IS HOW TO GET AROUND THE PROBLEM! <> It's been a while since I have done this, but I will tell you what I do. I

Great year or bad year?

Added over 5000 points to my sets.... Hi Everyone, Well 2009 has been a good year, added over 5,000 registry points to my sets. But the bad news is still in 10th place on my Lincoln set 1909 to present. Still in 11th place with my 1909 to 1958 set and 15th place with "my love", the 1909 to 1933 set! I also added a semi-key coin with a 1952-s FBL half to my very in-active Franklin set. So why do I say a bad year, well I have not moved up in any sets, or maybe just one set by one place!?

What is a "Plate" coin?

Saw several coins for sale at Teletrade.... Hi Everyone, Noticed a new thing and wanted to ask if any one knows what this means. The term "Plate" is used on several auctions at Teletrade, where the holder says "Small Cent 1903 Plate ANACS 63 RB MPD-006"..... The word Plate follows the MPD number, maybe it has something to do with that!? Please post an answer and we can all learn something new?

is now the time?

when is a good time to buy the best.... I have been around to watch the coin market to cycle up and down a couple of times. So my question is this, is now the time to buy key date coins? I think now is the time to buy these rarely seen coins! Some coins do not just appear week in and week out. So when you see a 1909-s VDB in an old green PCGS holder, you buy it. I am not saying you will not see another one, but see an older holder coin which is on the higher end of the grade and color given

finally a 1909-s VDB and a 1922 No D

finally found an old PCGS and NGC slab with a nice coin in it! I finally found 2 coins needed in my 1909 to 1933 collection of coins. A pcgs old slabbed 1909-s VDB and an NGC 1922 No D cent! A handful of bucks, but over 2700 points in registry value.

OK another one

Bid on this coin and then its gone..... Hi everyone, Hope you are finding little treasures for your coin collections in this tuff market. I want to share with you another of my stories about bidding with online auctions. Since I can not find any more QUALITY additions for my love, the 1909 to 1933 Lincoln cents, I find myself looking for other gems to pick up. I was bidding on a 1960's Deep Cam half dollar at one of the online auction houses. I choose this coin because of its low popula

Those were the days

Just think of the fun to open a sealed bag of old coins..... Hi everyone, just sent a note to Bully about his fun(or lack of) with half dollars and thought I would share a memory of mine. As a child I would join my father in the basement and open an old bag of coins he just returned from the bank with. He would be so proud to tell me how his buddy would get the coin company to bring him an old bag of sealed coins. Sometimes it would be pennies and other times half dollars! We would spend

"Formative Years" cents with errors!?

Just went thru a roll of Lincoln cents and found some errors! Very minor but none the less.... Picked up 10 rolls of "Formative Years" Lincoln cents from my bank and went thru one roll of coins. I found a handful of very minor errors, or at least the normal stuff. An obverse die crack starting at six o'clock rim and going to the lapel. A die mark that looks like Lincoln has a NOSE spike!? And some others. Did you find any interesting coins? I just saw on ebay a DDR with a double thumb, will lo

Teletrade and Heritage....part 3, PCGS 1972-s MS-66 red

How can they do this to us. Thank you all very much for your kind remarks and thoughts. I do plan to return these 2 coins, and some others I just recently bought. THE reason I made this posting is to alert you, my fellow collectors of what I see as a big problem. The pictures I posted are my own, and show carbon spots or marks that are on the coins. If you go to Heritage in the first and second journal I listed, you will see the 2 coins and see how the pictures Heritage took DO NOT SHOW THE

Teletrade and Heritage....

How can they do this to us? I buy coins online and noticed that lately the last few coins I have purchased from Teletrade and Heritage are not what the pictures show. I do not know if it is correct for me to post a picture of the coins from the site, but the ones they shown and the way the coin "really looks" is far apart. Yes that is correct! Now they can take a picture of a coin and either darken or somehow hide the marks, carbon spots, finger prints and make them magically disappear! I will

New Lincoln Mint rolls can yield a MS-67?

Can you get a MS-67 coin or 2 from a Mint Roll? Hey everyone, did my share of ordering coins from the Mint in the past and sending them in looking for a treasure or 2. I think it has to do with the ruff handling and coin wrapping machinery? They must ruff up the coins to the point of killing any chance to get a super gem out of the roll! Maybe the Mint is handling the coins better? But if they make so many and change the design so often, I think they rush to much and don't care about maki

Crossover or crack out a coin to send in?

You should always crack out a coin when you send it in to a new grading company.... and more. I am not a dealer, but a collector. So take my comments and experiences here with a grain of salt. They may not apply to you or in your area. While attending various coin shows in my area, I have heard many dealers talk about this practice of cracking out a coin and sending it in to another company. Once in a while some dealers would talk and not think I was listening or cared about them talking sho

Why are there so many PCGS sets in NGC's Registry?

Why are there so many PCGS sets in NGC's Registry? Why do PCGS set owners list in the NGC registry? What purpose does it serve? Should NGC require at least 30% NGC coins?
