Price was based in relation to the face value of the coins in the sets and many denominations weren't minted at each mint every year?

I will guess it was because of the number of coins included in the sets (i.e. some years with no SF issues etc.).

some sets included coins from the San Francisco mint which increased the face value for the sets while other sets did not included S mint coins . Hence a lesser face value for these sets.

The face value of coins in the set in each year is different. For example, the 1956 set has $2.64 face value in the set and sold for $3.34. On the other hand, the 1951 set has a face value of $5.46 and sold for $6.75.

I think that the reason the prices varied, altho not wildly, was due to demand and preorders?????
