Member: Seasoned Veteran DWLange Posted April 21, 2003 Member: Seasoned Veteran Share Posted April 21, 2003 From 1920 through 1941 the U. S. Mint at Manila coined pieces for The Philippines that include the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. These were indeed USA coins and are included in all such catalogs, excepting Breen. Beijim
It's interesting that the United States Mint web site seems to disavow all knowledge of this Mint facility in its online history. Any idea why this might be (other than the Mint employee writing the history being ignorant of the facility's existence)? Regards, Beijim
Member: Seasoned Veteran DWLange Posted April 28, 2003 Member: Seasoned Veteran Share Posted April 28, 2003 It may be simply that they're not aware of it, but it also may be that government types are sensitive about anything that reminds Americans of our flirtation with imperialism.
