nutty nickels

I came across a few nickels that may be victims of a greasy die.

The 1965 REV has seemingly thin lettering in "AMERICA"

The 1974 REV is missing "CEL"

Would these impairments be attributed to a grease filled die?

I would say the one missing CEL would more likely be from a grease filled die (design elements completely missing). The "thin" or "fading" AMERICA I have seen on some other nickels as well and I want to say it could be more due to the wear of the die combined with a weaker strike. I am not sure on these nickels if with having the die wearing excessively makes a normal strike appear to be weak because the die is overly worn. Maybe someone can enlighten me on that or just tell me I am grasping for straws. It is something I have seen and I don't want to blame every anomaly on a grease filled die or partially grease filled die when there could be other causes.

The 74 looks like it was grease and worn out dies on both sides. It may have also seen more use.
