blinewalker
Found this one the morning while getting coins ready to be sent in to be graded. I looked through Cherry Pickers and Wexlers seen a couple but none looked like this one. Anyway thanks for the input and advice.
RWB
Compliments on the photos, especially in the morning! Will defer to others on the subject.
Popular Post Just Bob
This particular "other" does not think it is a repunched mint mark. Judging by the (very good) photos, I see no shadow around the areas indicated. What appears to be a shadow around the spot to the left of the lower serif, looks like discoloration, to me. No shadow means that the areas are not raised. So, my opinion is that the areas are something in or on the surface of the coin - maybe a stain. Coinbuf
I agree, looks like a spot of PVC, corrosion, or some muck but not an RPM that I can see in the photos. GBrad
GBrad
I agree with the comments above. @Just Bob made a really good observation about shadowing. I will have to remember that in the future. Just one question though if you don't mind? Have you determined if this 'spot' is raised off of the field? Not to damage the coin, but if you took a toothpick or better yet a rose bush thorn (if available) you could gently tell if it is raised or not. If so, it could be the most perfectly rounded die chip I've ever seen. Even if it is raised metal, I can't see it being consistent in its shape to be that of an extra tail of an RPM produced by the same mint mark tool that created the mm on your coin. It appears to be too circular in shape.
Mohawk
I'm with the others. I'm thinking it's a stain or corrosion. Whatever it is, I do not think it's an RPM. GBrad
J P Mashoke
Looks more like a water spot than a RPM GBrad and Mohawk
Fenntucky Mike
If you are implying that your three arrows are pointing to a single RPM, then lets think about it. If you "connected the dots" and drew an "S" using the arrows as guides would it resemble the MM? I agree with the others in that it is probably a stain/environmental damage. It was a good question and even better images, keep on looking. GBrad
