Ron Pope (koynekwest) passed away November 9th, 2021. He was well known as a Buffalo nickel specialist and produced a very interesting book on abraded dies in the series. He was encouraging and generous with his time and expertise to all who wanted to learn.

The cause of death was cancer.

(There is a thread on the PCGS message board, also.)

I didn't know the man, but it's always sad when a community loses a member.  And cancer really sucks.  It takes too many good people.  I lost both my mom and stepmom to it last year.  My deepest condolences to Mr. Pope's family and friends.

It’s a badass foe. I’ve beaten two different forms, … for now. Nobody gets out of here alive, guys.

Wow.....that's horrible that you had cancer twice but amazing that you've beaten it twice.  You gotta be tough if you did that!!! And you're right.....none of us does get out of here alive at that.

It got my mom, my dad, and literally every one but one of my 10 aunts and uncles. I’m an ornery cuss (surprise, surprise, surprise, right?) with a fighting personality to take on lots of stuff. The only thing I can’t do is buy life insurance. I was once asked to do a clinical trial. I asked what my chances were. They said 50/50. I asked if I’m in the wrong 50, will doing it help others? They said it would. I signed up. I made the right 50. Lots of follow up appointments and the need to find new oncologists when I moved. I used to be at Penn State Hershey, PA’s largest teaching hospital. Now I’m handled by the Crimson Tide’s oncologists.

I love it, man!! I just love it (the ornery cuss part, of course.  Not the rest of it. That part's sad and horrible)!!  And I've been known to get a little ornery myself, esteemed sir

That is much too young. I am so sorry, Irvin. I can not imagine the hurt you have gone through.

That's just way too young.  What a horrible tragedy.  My deepest condolences to you for the loss of your son.
