Quintus Arrius
As the owner of the No.: 1 Registry Set of the above-titled matter [Rooster Roster] my question to collectors is why is it both TPG have produced the following glaringly disparate grading populations results for the following years, as follows: 1899-1906, Mint State-67 = Zero or None (unavailable at any price despite mintages well into the millions. By contrast, 1907-1914, Mint State-67 = 40 (pejoratively dismissed as re-strikes) My question posed to fellow rooster collectors who have been stymied in completing their quality compilations is why do you suppose that is? RWB
As stated by many on the other rooster thread you started: 1) no qualifying pieces have been submitted; 2) none exist. That's about all one can say. Alex in PA. and GoldFinger1969
Moxie15
I collect French minor coinage and it is my opinion that the French Mints of the nineteenth century was not concerned with quality and the coins show it. Quintus Arrius
Popular Post Quintus Arrius
A tidbit for Rooster aficionados... "Until the year 1912 the '9' of the date is 'closed,' in 1913 and 1914 it is open." "The 1914 was re-minted in 202,359 copies in 1921." "The coins from 1907 to 1914 were re-minted between 1951 to 1960 at 37,483,500 copies. They are distinguished from the originals (1899-1906) by a more reddish color." "There were a number of 1898 prototypes made (mintage unknown)" "Matt blanks for both the 1899 and 1900 is what gives this coin its rarity [in addition to regular issues]." 🐓 GoldFinger1969, Cat Bath and Hoghead515

Quintus Arrius
[There are a number of varieties and errors in the series which, for whatever reason, are not formally recognized. For example, the original segment, 1899-1906, all have raised lettering on the edge reading, "God Protect France." The restrikes, 1907-1914, read "Liberty * Fraternity * Equality. But some of the 1907's (I believe) were minted with the old slogan. It is quite possible I may have one but I would have to de-encapsulate it to find out. Funny how you know something exists, but it is not formally acknowledged. Anywhere. I wish you all the best on your rooster hunt!

I don't know how this slipped by me. (They named a soda pop after you in New England!) I believe you are correct but the reason I wouldn't know is because the Coq Marianne series began in 1899.
