There are 4 main sets that I'm currently working on.

In order of how active they are as far as finding anything for them (from least active to most active):

Upgrading my Franklin business strike set.

1893 Proof cameo set (no gold).

1858 business strike set.

1940 - 1964 business strike Washington quarters.

Here's a coin from the 1858 set...

I've added a couple of PR66BN MPL over the last 2 or 3 months. Both former Larry Shepherd coins. I've actually replaced a couple of RB's, which some consider a downgrade. I don't.

Small set, but slow going. Probably my favorite Jeff Nickel in my collection. Hammered strike and cleanest jaw line I have seen.

I posted this ATS a while ago. I "put away" the Peace set for a few months but it has seen a little resurgence lately with three new upgrades. Sometimes when the right coins show up you have to pounce:

I am currently working on a set of Twenty Cent pieces and a set of Type I gold dollars. The gold dollars are coming going slowly mainly because the scarcer ones don't show up in attractive states of preservation that often, and I'm holding off on a couple of common dates because I really want one high grade piece in MS-65. For example of I buy an 1851 in MS-64, as a could have done yesterday, I'd probably find the right one in MS-65 then have to contend with a duplicate. So when I find the "right" MS-65, I will add more of the common dates.

Here is an 1850-C in AU-58, well struck. This is one of the "bears" in the series.

And here is my latest 20 cent piece addition, an 1876 in MS-65.

Lovely 20 center Bill! I have been looking for one like it for some time.

Here is a recent addition to my large cent date set. Its hard to find one without ugly copper spots.

Since I've never bought online, I'm limited to whats available near me. To add to this, the local "coin shops" seem to have turned to bullion shops with little if anything available in collectible coins. There are 3 dealers at the local flea market that I buy from, these are my last 2 buys.......

P.S.- Very nice coins everyone!!!

Thanks, Ankur J. (thumbs u

The photo is slightly juiced because I wanted to show the beautiful luster that is under the thick, original toning. The coin is mostly blue with some purple mixed in on the most deeply toned spots.

This purchase was an example of what can happen when you get to review auction lots live. From the photos this piece did not look like much in the Heritage catalog, but when I saw it in person, I had to bid even though I did not originally intend to have this date in both Proof and Mint State. Now all I have to do is find two 1875-P coins in Proof and Unc., and my registry set will be complete. :insane: Yes, collecting both is a bit nutty, but it is a very short series.

The 1875-P is much harder to find than you might think. I've been looking for a year or so and have come up empty so far. One of problems is that my want list notification messages from Heritage don't filter out the 1875-CC and S coins when I asked for the 1875-P.
