The wife thinks I'm crazy...

18 posts in this topic

I told my wife Sara that I wanted my slabbed Morgan toner collection photographed for my birthday. She looked at me as if I were insane. "I knew you were passionate about your hobby, but that sounds a little OCD, honey."

Am I really insane? People get photos taken of their coins just to have them for themselves...right? Not for resale purposes...I'm not insane....right?....Anyone?

Not insane. My wife takes my pictures and she is getting better everyday. The downside is that I had to buy her a super camera. ha ha ha

Not insane. I've retaken photos of some of my coins half a dozen times. And I'm still not happy so I sent a few out to be photographed by someone else. I think that's a fantastic birthday present. Doing it yourself saves money, but it sure is a time and frustration investment. And even then, you might end up like me, hiring it out in the end. =)

Insane? Hardly!

But, if you want to get your wife to help you, go out to the yard, lay down in a prone position and take photos of a blade of grass growing. Do this in several locations in the yard, and do it every day. Then, maybe your wife will cut the grass so the neighbors won't think you're nuts.

For a non-collector it might seem odd that we collectors have photographs taken of stuff we own so when can view them on our computers. Yet just as an example if your spouse collects some sort of figurines which are displayed at home... Our coins are a bit different as the coins are stored away from home in a bank safety deposit box. My ex used to call all the pics I had taken of my coins centerfolds and all the numismatic sites I ventured on to look at pics coin porn.

Ain't nothing wrong with that. It's also a good way of keeping good Identification of them should you ever need it!

Tell her its for insurance purposes ;)

I get good pictures of my coins taken to share with y'all here, and for my Registry sets.

I have had dozens of my coins photo'd by Mark, Jeremy, Todd and several others. Getting ready to send off my Mercury dime collection to be photo'd. I take pictures a little better than my wife, who carries on conversations with anyone while taking pictures and everything is blurry. lol

Gettem done!

Jim,

Your comment made me think about my Mom. Whenever we traveled, one of us would take photos of the other with various friends and acquaintances. These were the days before I had a digital camera with a memory card and an LCD which would allow you to preview the photo. I finally had to take over the duties as "photographer" since my Mom would always find a way to cut the top of someone's head off in the photo (usually mine).

Chris

PS. My dog takes better photos than me, and I don't have a dog.

She knows you better than any of us

did she say you are crazy or have a little OCD

most collectors have a touch of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

that by itself does not make a person crazy

- is there more you are not telling us?
