New Collecting Direction - Thanks to Chris [ cpm9ball ]

I have wanted to start a collection of Morgans - and I have decided to

just do CC's and family birth years [ Grandparents: 1889 & 1891 ] &

my Mom - 1921. My Dad was born in 1917 - so no Morgans for him !!

This is the first group... the latest group has yet to be imaged as I just

picked those up at FUN.

Thanks Chris for "showing me the Light"

[ I was told that only 5 coins can be attached at a time using the NGC system...]

Wow, Mike! That's a very nice set of Morgans you have there.

I noticed that the 85-CC has a dash under the second "8". Check it to see if it is the VAM-4 "Doubled Dash" Hot 50.

Chris - That's exactly what it is.

Thanks for pointing that out to me !

I also have five more coins from FUN that need imaging.

Plus I have a smattering of odd ball dates - all the 1921's

and a few O Mints from the 1880's. Nothing breathtaking.

If you have any of the 83-O or 84-O, be sure to check them for the O/O's. Some of them are "Top 100" or "Hot 50".

GREAT Morgans!! I really like that idea, as well. Maybe you already have done this but, if you haven't, you should get some 1917 Walkers for your Dad's birth year set. If you already have some; I'd really love to see them!! Great collection, Mike!!

A complete date and variety set would be cost prohibitive in higher grades right? Aren't there also obverse and reverse mint mark varieties for a lot of these coins?

They are expensive but I wouldn't call them cost prohibitive.

Yes, there are obverse and reverse mint marked varieties (5 coins in all). They range in price from 300-7000 in MS 64 and in MS 63 they range from 200-4500.

The other alternative would be to pick up just one coin of that year, since there is such a wide range to choose from, he could pick how much that he wanted to spend.

I am fairly well along on the 1917's - I need the 1917-S Nickel in MS 63-64+;

The Buffalos are P=64 and the D is a 64.

I have all the Ty 1 & 2 in MS 63-64+ Quarters, Dimes are P=65; D=64

[ I have the Eliasberg 17-S NGC 66 Merc ] I also have an 17-S O/C in AU 58.

- The Lincolns are complete in MS 63-65 -

plus I have the PDS in Off Center AU's as well.

The Halves are Phila in 64; D obverse is a 58; S reverse is also a 58.

I had the S Obv in 53 years ago as wellas the D Rev - but sold them.

Now, I want the halves in 58 - as they are crazy priced in MS 63-64.

Lastly, I bought my Dad for his 90th Birthday, a 1917 McKinley in 63.

The real problem is getting the last coin for my Mom's birthyear set.

I need a 21-S [ I sold my 55 five years ago ] - and would love to get

one to match the 21-P & 21-D I have now in 63.
