If any of the photographers hate image editing and find it time consuming I'd be happy to do it for them. Just rotate/crop/resize , unless auto levels or something is allowed in the rules (and looks better)

There are no rules against any method used in order to get the best image. The voters will decide which they like the best. If using an photo editing program were a bad thing almost all professional photographers would be out of business.

I got nailed with an alleged "2 day turnaround" - but one of those days (1/12) was my birthday!!!!! Who in the world is expected to be imaging coins on their birthday ?

Somewhere along the way the area around the coin went from this

Heat. Heat causes microscopic air bubbles in the o ring to pop or release,causing the o ring to collapse or shrink.It is very common in florida,the fleamarket guys always have a majority of them that look like that.

Ouch, that is an unpleasant holder. I'll bet that makes it a little bit more difficult to photo as well. My guess would be a light was left a little too close to the holder, and melted it a bit. Good news is, now you can crack it out and get some raw pictures, Bob.

In another couple of weeks, I will post the obverse and reverse image results of each participant on this forum and the coin forum ATS. The image won't be labeled by who took the images, but rather just random contestant numbers. The members of both forums will vote for their favorite obverse and their favorite reverse image. The sum of both forums will determine the winner. The winning obverse shot and reverse shot will each win $100. We could have two winners.

 

The coin will be in the mail to the last person (hopefully) in the next day or so.

I have no doubts whatsoever that what ever happened to the slab was the result of an accident. I blame no one and will more than likely have another contest towards the end of the year.

It's warming up, 91 degrees here today. Perhaps the coin was left in a mailbox a little too long and the heat got to it and melted the gasket?
