Whee! This coin is my most valuable to date, double the value of my next item down, an MS65 1908 no motto Saint. This is a 1911-D quarter eagle, NGC-graded AU55. It cost me a lot of up-trading, gutting my best Morgans and my other Saint, an MS64 common date. But, it was worth it. I'm going to go stare at it now...
I had this coin in my top 3 " To Buy" if I ever had $20K to spend ( it was an old poll asking what 3 coins you'd buy if you had $20K and had to be spent on coins)..I also had an 1877 3c nickel and the nicest Flowing Hair Half I could find with the money that was left after the other 2 coins were bought...so to say I'm a bit envious is an understatement--by the way, a VERY strong D also..congrats

Wow..I get a thrill just looking at early dollars like that...nice buy rube, $22 each--including 3 ASE's which are selling at over $30 is a bargain..

BTW, does anyone know what to multiply the face value of 40% silver to get the approximate melt value? Thank you!
The ASW for a 40% IKE is .3161..simply multiply .3161 x spot price = silver value ( of course mixed metal coin silver should sell for less than .999 because of the more complex process of extracting the silver from the other metals)

In response to that attractive 1799/8 ANACS...I believe it will cross..I've had VERY good luck with old, small green ANACS slabs.. ( and also their older pale blue slabs that had the ANA logo)..you may even dare to hope for a point or two more...F12 anyone?

Hi Sam..thanks e1. I've been away from the forums for a long time mainly due to getting logged out and resetting my password on an old Comcast paying email was a pain. The registry forums won't allow my yahoo email account ( although I've been an NGC and Collectors Society paid membger for ages..it's good to see so many of you are still here..Hi Bob, thanks, glad you enjoyed the photos.........

nice coins Jeff...if you intend to expand your railway theme there are some nice coins in the Canadian $20 transportation series...I have bought all of the ship ones of course..
PS: I believe they ran from 2000-2003, you can find a list in the Registry since they are part of a competetive registry category; Canada $20 Transportation Series-- there are 16 coins total, one each year with a nautical, railway, and aviation theme..

Two more old halves...a 1904 VF35 Barber and a 1917 MS62 Walker ( weak on strike for the date but nice eye appeal and luster)
