Mystery roll from eBay for $20 was it worth it??
EagleRJO replied to Youngmoola's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
Yea, I didn't really think that one through. -
Mystery roll from eBay for $20 was it worth it??
EagleRJO replied to Youngmoola's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
Yea, I must have gotten that completely wrong, and if it came from the American Mint instead of the US Mint then for sure that is not a cheap knock-off plated novelty coin worth less than the postage to mail it to you. Those are all great scores you made out like a bandit on that you should submit, along with all the other super rare and valuable proof and error coins you have been posting, so you can rub it in our faces. I stand in awe of your knowledge and experience, and wish you would stick around so just a smattering of that excellence can rub off on me. -
Mystery roll from eBay for $20 was it worth it??
EagleRJO replied to Youngmoola's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
Come on Sandon, you are not buying into this as this guy doesn't need any help since he is super experienced and knows more than anyone here. And that's not a cheap knock-off plated novelty coin, it's a super legit and valuable solid gold 3 ounce St Gaudens coin direct from the mint, since it's in plastic, that the op scored for only a couple of hundred dollars and is worth over $6k that he should submit for grading and keep in a safe deposit box. -
Mystery roll from eBay for $20 was it worth it??
EagleRJO replied to Youngmoola's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
I think you should submit all you super valuable scores obtained from the very reliable eBay mystery rolls and absolutely legit jumbo coins dug up from gardens, as well as all the other super rare and valuable errors you have, to a grading company so you can rub it in our face. -
Mystery roll from eBay for $20 was it worth it??
EagleRJO replied to Youngmoola's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
Hmmm, a 3 ounce "jumbo st gardens" coin the op got direct from the mint, when a legit Saint Gaudens double eagle has an ounce of gold and was struck between 1907 and 1933. Everyone knows real gold coins come from gardens, and someone put it in plastic so it's "certified". You just can't make this stuff up, and I think we have the troll of the month winner. -
Evaluate and know the currency price
EagleRJO replied to Abdelrahman63637's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
Just the size, shape and appearance gives me the impression of a cheap modern knockoff or token. A legit ancient Roman bronze coin if that's what you were thinking would be smaller, look different and be more irregularly shaped like the attached examples which were hand struck. And in the future if you suspect something might have value handle it only at the edges if necessary. -
I think I see the "dot" you and Sandon are referring to between the "8" and the "9" identified on the attached. It appears to just be either a discolored area on the coin which just happened to take that shape or possibly a circular indentation from something which ended up on the die. In any event it's not some type of error or a variety that may add value, particularly with the very worn condition, so I don't think the actual cause really matters.

1878 p 8tf. What VAM do you think it may be
EagleRJO replied to xinfantry's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
Some people collect Morgan VAMs which I believe ANACS will attribute even if they are not the popular or more valuable ones the two big boys will attribute. Has that coin been slabbed by a TPG? I assume you know of VAM World which is where I would go to look into this Morgan VAM. They have a very detailed guide on attributing the 1878 (P) Morgan at the link below, since there are quite a lot of them for that issue. Also, I find first identifying the date location and then the mint mark location and tilt is a good starting point. http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/1878-P_VAMs -
1999 MULE DIE CLASH? OPINONS PLEASE....
EagleRJO replied to Travsobeast's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
There are some good images of what the very rare and valuable 1999 1C MUDC coin looks like at the MadDieClashes site linked below, and this one is not even close. Also, it's a double mule die clash for a Lincoln cent, not a "mule clash die 2 cent Lincoln cent". Is this the third one you think is this very rare coin, which is another miss and I think by now you would see in any cent with marks in that area of the reverse? https://www.maddieclashes.com/mudc-1c-1999-01/ P.S. Mad Die Clashes is my go-to-site for things like this, and I noticed it's the same images as the link Sandon provided. You can pretty clearly see the backwards portion for "Of America" in the image below from the link starting at the "UNI". -
1976 ddo bicentennial quarter
EagleRJO replied to Youngmoola's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
I can grade coins, as I think any serious collector should be able to do, and I wasn't being sarcastic. You are not going to get much help with replies like that. -
Lincoln "cracked skull"

Just a curiosity find. -
1976 ddo bicentennial quarter
EagleRJO replied to Youngmoola's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
That is just a very worn and damaged quarter which even if it had doubling, which I can't see, would not command a premium. I would try starting with coins in better condition to begin with, and go back to some basics about collecting and searching for varieties here ... Basic Resources and Glossary -
1878 S VAM-95 Morgan Dollar question
EagleRJO replied to xinfantry's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
As a Morgan collector I agree that there really wouldn't be any premium for an 1878-S $1 VAM-95, which is not a popular VAM that just has some minor doubling of a few letters and a die chip, and is not on any of the top Morgan collectors lists (e.g. Top 100 Morgan VAMs). I would use the quoted pricing by PM for a typical MS-62 1878-S Morgan discounted slightly for the ANACS holder which yields a lower premium compared to the two big boys NGC and PCG$. -

EagleRJO replied to Mr.Bill347's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
The first 67+ coin on that CoinFacts page is a "No FG" but it's not labeled with that variety. See this page for the variety ... https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin/1982-p-50c-no-fg-fs-901/510568 -
I thought there were only two (2) 1982-D 1C SD Bronze coins known to exist, both graded by NGC, out of billions of cents struck that year in Denver giving you better odds of hitting the Powerball. https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-coins/ngc-confirms-second-bronze-1982-d-small-date-cent.html NGC 1982-D 1C SD Bronze Transitional Coin

I have a 1909S penny. What is its value?
EagleRJO replied to Mimi1947's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
You can go to the following CoinFacts page for that regular 1909-S 1C coin to match a grade with the coin in-hand (click "View More Images"), and then look up an approximate value. That looks pretty worn and there are marks on the reverse which may be scrapes which would result in a "Details" grade that would knock off like a 1/4 to 1/3 the value. https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin/1909-s-1c-lincoln-bn/2432 -
No, you only need one 1965 SMS set (or "special mint set") as JPM posted above for the "1965 SMS" hole. The "1965" hole is a regular circulation issue coin that looks different than the SMS coins and does not come from a mint set.

He just can not bring himself to search through the rolls as then he would become a "roll hunter"!

1969 S DDO Lincoln Memorial Cent Photos
EagleRJO replied to double ddo's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
It is very difficult to see any doubling with the photos posted, but If you see doubling of all of those things with the coin in-hand then it's very likely just "worthless" machine doubling. It's definitely not the rare 1969-S 1C DDO-001 FS-101, which is clear even from those photos, which resulted from a significant counter clockwise (CCW) rotation of the dies during hubbing. It also can not be the minor DDO-002 (2-O-V-CW) listed on Variety Vista linked above, as that resulted from a clockwise (CW) rotation of the dies during hubbing. That would produce doubling that would be more visible near the rim like at "In God We Trust" while having very little effect on elements towards the center of the coin (e.g. neck, bow tie, chin). Sorry, it seems you just have some extra pocket change. -
I assume you mean that you filled the holes for "1965 SMS", "1966 SMS" and "1967 SMS" holes from the "special mint sets" like the ones JPM posted above, and that the "1966" and "1967" holes were filled with regular circulation issue coins not from any mint set. That would be the way to complete that Dansco album. Now you just need a regular circulation issue coin to fill the "1965" hole.

1969 S DDO Lincoln Memorial Cent Photos
EagleRJO replied to double ddo's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
That coin is not a match with the rare 1969-S 1C DDO FS-101 variety. You can see some better images to verify that for yourself at Variety Vista or the NGC Variety Plus link Sandon previously provided ... http://www.varietyvista.com/09d WQ Vol 4 DC/01b LC Doubled Dies Vol 2/DDO 1969-S.htm https://www.ngccoin.com/variety-plus/united-states/cents/lincoln-cents-memorial-reverse-1959-2008/815704/ Better cropped photos of each side would be needed to see anything beyond that. But it's at best a minor variety without any real added value that NGC will not attribute, and likely worthless machine doubling. -

EagleRJO replied to Mr.Bill347's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
The "No FG" varieties for the Kennedy half dollars were from common over polishing of the dies, and something to keep an eye out for when roll hunting. The big boys will only attribute three (3) No FG Kennedys that are well known (1966 SMS, 1972-D & 1982-P) with no trace of the initials under magnification. I'm not aware of any partial or weak FG being collectible. They aren't attributed by the TPGs or included in any registry sets, and I doubt they have any value. https://www.pcgs.com/news/what-are-no-fg-kennedy-half-dollars-worth -

1988 Lincoln cent reverse of 1989?
EagleRJO replied to Ezwolf's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
Hope you are doing better. Yea, a few hundred for lower uncirculated grades so of course the YT hacks are hawking this one too in their simple to get rich quick from pocket change . Probably included in Lincoln cent roll hunting sorting mats if you use those. I use mats for other coins like quarters I roll hunt as a quick reminder of coins to keep an eye out for before going through rolls. -

Were you able to find a 1972-D No FG Kennedy at a decent price? That seems to be the elusive one in good condition, and there are a number of fakes too.
