Thanks Roger! So modern materials are considered proprietary and not publicly available. Would I have any luck if I submitted a FOIA request?
-
They're government employees. I would think any action from the norm would or should be documented. Where's Roger?
-
When working dies are intentionally altered or modified, are records and documents kept of that action?... Who modified the die? Why it was modified? When it was modified?..etc..

I see where Wexler has attributed them but it's odd ANACS doesn't even have one listed.

I think you can send the coin to Wexler. If its not attributed they will attribute it for you with a new FS number. Then most the time ANACS will slab it as a discovery coin if you send your paper work in with it you get back from having it attributed. Ive read about this on another forum before. I think there is a couple different places you can send it but I think most use Wexler from my understanding. Nice find tj96.
Yes, I did some more research. I believe a James Wiles and a Jason Cuvelier will also look at it and attribute it if it's legit. Thanks!

You can have it attributed by a professional attribution specialist.
Exactly who might that be? Someone at a coin shop?

Thanks guys! 👍🏻

It just seems the TPG'ers will not attribute it of it's not listed in the CPG with an FS number.

It appears that you do have a doubled die obverse ("DDO") here, but it is a very minor one. NGC VarietyPlus doesn't list a DDO for the 1972-D Kennedy half dollar. (VarietyPlus is under the "Resources" tab on the NGC home page.) It is my understanding that NGC would likely treat the coin as a normal 1972-D half dollar and not attribute it notwithstanding your payment of the $18 variety attribution fee, which NGC would keep anyway.
If this variety is listed in some print or online reference, it is possible that some other service such as ANACS (anacs.com) would attribute it. Have you checked sites such as doubleddie.com and variety vista.com for a match? If there is no match, you might ask ANACS if they would attribute it as a discovery coin.
Thanks, that's my understanding as well. I checked PCGS and ANACS pop reports. I don't see one listed or attributed there as well. CPG doesn't list one either. Variety vista does have a 72-D DDO listed but I can't tell if it's an exact match. I haven't check doubleddie.com yet.

It went across the road with the chicken, the wolf, and the Pastrami on Rye -- to that little place just outside of Truth of Consequences, NM.
Across the road? You mean across the street. You are still highly regarded over there. 👍🏻 Your name comes up quite a bit.

Very funny Roger. Don't make me come over there. 🤣

Okay, I'm lost. Where did Variety Plus go for U.S. coins? I go to Variety Plus and I see all foreign coins. Am I over looking it somewhere?
Never mind. I'm losing my mind. I found it! Sorry to bother you.

It was scratched up so badly I had to. Very deep scratches. It was the only way to take them out. Its very smooth now. A very fine sandpaper works great on plastic. It still didnt take out a couple of the deeper scuffs but they are off to the side where they dont bother me. I couldve if I wanted to spend some more time on it but its good enough for me. I dont know what the previous owner did to it but it was bad. Looks like it had been run over.
Oh, okay. I didn't realize the scratches were deep. Were they worse then these?

I never would have used any type of sandpaper on it but if it looks better and you like the results, that's what counts! 👍🏻
