  1. Congratulations :)  it is always nice to be "right" once in a while in this hobby.  It helps heal the pain of missing so many other times.  :);)  That is a nice a nice looking both before and after.  Your thread has encouraged to send in an 1870 IHC that is a bit of a mess. I will keep you posted.

  2. July 20 1969 I too was launched to another world. I departed McChord Air Force Base for a tour of VietNam. I didn’t arrive until the 22nd due to International Date Line and refueling. In other words, I missed the whole darn thing😖😖😖

  3. I think the mint is getting desperate and this just another gimmick. Think of all the gimmicks they have introduced in the last ten years or so. Reverse proof, sms, burnished, convex, and now W coins for general circulation. We are all addicted so we aren't the target :) Except for those of us with OCD who have to have one of everything the mint releases. Fortunately I have overcome that compulsion since retirement ^__^   The selling of many of the "must haves" in my collection have shown me the error of my ways. Be patient and the right coin will find you, maybe not on your schedule but it is out there. Happy Hunting

  4. I started one for my grandson using coins from the National parks. It has been a hoot and a really cheap souvenir. :) I have filled two and half way through a third. Most visitor centers at National Parks have penny crushers so it is part of the fun too. I got the Roswell penny this February while traveling through Arizona , new mexico, and Texas.  5 National parks in 8 days plus Roswell. What a great trip ^___^  Enjoy the fun while  your son is young and full of enthusiasm with the "newness" the world presents.

  5. I saw one of Smithsonian $100,000 gold certificates "graded" go at auction for over $800. I believe the price "new" from the seller is around $250. There are folks out there who have more money than sense. But, then again, haven't we all made bad buys in the past?
