Michelle's surgery was today. I got a lot of flowers yesterday, arranged them all, etc. Her sister helped put them all in her room (she's staying at her parents house for the first week or two) because I had to work today. Michelle's doctor said the surgery went very smoothly, no evident signs of cancer remaining. She just got home and saw the flowers, and said she could feel the love and support. To everyone who helped.... a huge thank you, from me, from her, from all of our family. There's a bit of a road left with the recovery, but she's almost there. This is just a portion of the flowers we got. She loves sunflowers, but tulips are her favorite. I was really worried... because this is not the time of year for either of those. But I was able to find them, and she absolutely loved them. Again, thank you all.

Yup, as mentioned, this is strike doubling. Extreme cases can be desirable, but it is somewhat common. I probably wouldn't bother sending this coin in. It grades AU details, questionable color.

I've used the report feature. I've used the PM/DM feature. I've directly messaged the people at NGC that I thought were supposed to be managing these forums. I've sent messages to Dena. To Ali E. To D.W.Lange (yeah, I know he's got a lot going on right now, absolutely nothing against him not responding). But, there is literally zero response from any moderator on any issue from anyone about anything, so it seems. The coin forums are dying.... or rather, they are being murdered. We need some sort of moderator response. I was told a couple of years ago that there was a problem with your software and you weren't seeing our reports. If that is still the case.. why haven't you fired your tech support and fixed your website. Do you want this place to die? The coin forums are nearly dead, and are actively being murdered by a couple of trolls. I don't know if anyone will see this message. I really hope they do. Because I really hope that somebody somewhere cares enough to fix something, ban a couple of trolls.

Are they world coins? Are they US? I don't know what to think! Similar with the coins of the Philippines (although I don't have any of those).

And no, I don't mean the America the Beautiful Quarter!In 1883, there was a sugar baron who contracted to supply coinage to the (then independent) islands of Hawaii. Charles Barber designed the coins, using a bust of the current King Kalakaua I of Hawaii and the shield reverse. 5 denominations were designed (10 cent, 12.5 cent, quarter, half, and dollar), although the 12.5 cent was never issued for circulation (very rare proofs were made). The rest of them used the same silver planchets that standard US coins utilized. The coins were minted in San Francisco and saw limited circulation, but a large number were melted.As far as I know, only the quarter and half dollar are known in PL condition. I've long watched, waited, and bid unsuccessfully. But now, its mine! This one is graded MS-64PL, and has such intense mirrors and cameo contrast. Very few PL coins have such stark contrast. Feel free to comment, or post your Hawaiian coins if you have them!

I don't collect these myself, so I'm not as familiar as some others might be. I'd say, from consulting Photograde, that 20 might be a bit low. 30 might be warranted, but that's probably as high as I'd consider. So, a touch conservative but not outlandish.

I will point out that comics and baseball (sports) cards use the 10 point scale, and it seems to work well for them. Both of those types of collectibles are often subject to large amounts of wear. Being paper, they also degrade much more easily than coins. So, if it works for them, it can probably work for us too. Biggest problem... the coin industry has been around a bit longer, and you've got a lot of people used to the current system. Grading comics and video games is a very recent development, comparatively, and so they didn't have anything else to convert from.

What is the other side of that? I don't recognize it, but it might be some sort of silver art medal? Highly corroded, cleaned/polished, but again, worth the silver content.

Oh, brother. You need to stop buying.... anything. You need to read a couple of books. You need to ask some questions (before you buy). I'll bet he charged you a hefty premium for that colorized silver eagle with super rare certificate of "authenticity"? If you paid any more than $20 for it, you got ripped off. We can, and will, help you, if you are interested. But the two things you've posted so far are.... really not worth much of anything beyond their literal silver content. Might as well rip the band-aid off and post the other things you bought, so we can just get this out of the way.

Yes, the fact that we like and understand round numbers is a strong argument in favor of this. And I also agree that the arbitrary 0.1 and 0.5 divisors are too beholden to the Sheldon scale. Realistically, they just took the 70 points and crammed them into 10. But with plus grades, we've already got a whole more than 30! That is one big reason why I like the 100 point scale better.... you don't necessarily need 100 discrete points. It gives you breathing room to define grades without decimals and pluses and whatnot. What we really need is a completely new way of thinking about coins, grades, and descriptions.

Oh, no, very much no. That is artificial and fake as toning comes. I don't want to pee in your Cheerios, but that is definitely fake all the way, 100%. Not a single thing about that is right. And no, as you may infer, I don't like it. Sorry.

Really, it is the exact same... Literally the only difference is a 9.9 vs a 99.

There has been a push and desire to go to a 100 point grading scale to replace Sheldon for a very long time. Sheldon's scale didn't make much sense when it was first published, and it makes even less sense now. I, for one, am strongly in favor of a new, universal scale. I'm not convinced a 10 point scale is the most ideal, but given that is how many, many other things are also graded it makes sense to have a parallel to other collectibles. And yes, it is going to be a sometimes difficult transition. Yes, there will be a period where both scales are used. But, I think that it is high time we consider something like this.

Yup, got the memo. From 1860 to 2000, lots of value, probably. Last couple of decades? Not so much. Haven't kept up with the times. Haven't modernized yet.
