  1. I collect a little bit of everything. I started some registry sets but theres no way i can ever afford to come close to competing with the collectors in the top places. I love collecting certified coins mostly because i know most the time what im getting. Im very proud of my collection even tho it looks plumb pitiiful compared to most. Im just very grateful for anything I get in life and grateful to be able to get the coins I got. I also like tokens. I like putting together albums also. I just started last year and am no where close to completing my first but its been a great time working on it. One of my favorite parts of the whole thing has been talking to everyone on here and learning about coins and how the mints work. Ive met some great friends on here and that is one of the most valuable things ive got from the hobby. Friends and knowledge. I wish i had started earlier in life. Also love checking my change and saving coins. Even ones plum worthless to most. I collect about everything and enjoy it.
  2. Very nice Lem E. He gonna look good in amongst the rest of those beauties.
  3. They have them on Ebay for around $25. Just type in 1976 mint proof set.
  4. Ive had change in the astray of our vechicles before and rubber bands. We use our ashtrays as junk drawers. Lol. Ive seen the same thing happen before.
  5. I got to researching a bit and the Smithsonian has copied quite a few different coins. It looks like they change the looks quite a bit. Id say those beard tokens are probably not an exact copy as the original. Just close enough to it to get by with it. Here is supposed to be a Morgan from them. Quite different from an authenic Morgan. Some of them are very expensive. From the sellers selling them anyways. Dont know if they are worth what they are asking.
  6. Do you reckon the reason they got by with the russian tokens is because of the date? They have 2019 wrote in Russian on the back of them. Im also wondering why NGC would certify them.
  7. Here around the house they will take larger bills later in the day. We live out in a sparsly populated area where everyone knows everyone. I got some good friends who work at the small stores around here. They will take them if they made enough to still have change. The only time they deposit the money in the safe at these 2 particular stores is at shift change. My wife worked at the one store for a while before she became a nurse. I know another store here close where the owner stays there all day long. She has access to the safe. She will take large bills anytime of the day. Ive broke 100s there early in the morning and just bought a sausage bisquit and pack of smokes. But she has access to the safe. I know her really well. She only keeps a certain amount in the register just like you said in case of robbery. Ive seen her open the safe in front of me before. She keeps good size stacks of small bills in it. More than i probably would. But robberies around here are almost unheard of. One store got robbed in the next town over bout 20 years ago was the last one.
  8. Thats what makes me wonder about the new 2021 Morgans. They are copys wiith the fake mintmarks to go along with them.
  9. They didnt make bicentennial lincoln cents. Just quarter, half, and dollar.
  10. Very sorry to hear that my friend. Tell your wife I send my condolences. Tell her I send prayers for you all also as you all go through this hard time. Its rough losing a parent. My mother is still living but I lost my dad almost 2 years ago and Im still grieving. Your wife reminds me of myself. If its not mine then I dont want it. Ive been in those situations before finding wallets full of money and other things and not touch a dime of it. In instance of the wallet I tracked down the very grateful owner who couldnt believe he got it back with the money still in there. I wouldnt even take the reward he tried to give me. I just see it as my duty as a God fearing man to do the right thing.
  11. The US Mints treasure hut is, "The Great American Coin Hunt." It only consisted of the West Point mintmark quarters. They done it with 2019 quarters and 2020 quarters. Struck so many at West Point and released them into circulation. They never released no coins made from precious metals or any older coins. It was all modern clad quarters dated 2019 and 2020 bearing a W mintmark.
  12. Its not rotated enough to be reconized. Its gotta be off so many degrees before it carries a premium.
  13. Here where I live alot of these little country gas stations and restraunts will accept larger bills only if they have enough change to do so. That said it wipes their change out. Usually later in the day they can accept them. Usually mornings the owners or managers only give them a small amount to start out with and it all 1s, 5s, and 20s. Everyone knows everyone around here and i got alot of friends that work the cash registers at different places. They explained this to me before.
  14. I agree that its just a plating blister. Dosent resemble a die crack.
  15. Looks like worn dies to me and some PMD.
  16. Are they genuine? If so that would be some awsome change to get back. If it were me though I would try to find the original owner and return them. It would eat at my concience. Someone made a major mistake if they are real.
  17. I read the real ones was struck in the 1700s as tax tokens in Russia. I guess the Smithsonian has some on display. If I read it correctly.
  18. Hes got some beautifully toned coins. There are several lovely toners. I was a little hasty when I started this thread. I looked at several very ugly toned coins on Ebay and a few other places. Most looked like AT and was overwhelming.
  19. Has anyone seen these. I thought they were interesting. A modern replica struck in 2019 from the Smithsonian. They may not appeal to alot of collectors but I found them pretty neat. I got 1 in silver and 1 in copper both certified by NGC. I researched that the silver has a mintage of 5,000 and the copper 15,000. May not ever have a value but be interesting in my private collection. My question is does the Smithsonian strike medals and tokens such as these there or have a private mint do it for them? Also what kind of press do they have? I read these were broadstruck instead of using a collar. Also the silver has been antiqued. How do they antique things? I could probably look these things up but I like to engage in conversation. If anyone has any negative feedback on them you wont hurt my feelings. I enjoy critisim just as much as positive feedback. Thank you to all
  20. Good luck on them. Update us and let us know how they done when you get them back.
  21. The coin is flawless. The scratches are on the plastic capsule.
