  1. Just came across this one I thought I’d share and for some discussion. PCGS nor NGC has any DD’s listed for this year and mint. I checked coppercoins and they do have some listed for this date and mint but nothing of this sort. Looks to me to be true doubling especially on the lips and under the nose. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.
  2. You got me at first on this sentence...lol. I was thinking you were referring to the mint mark (mm)..... Then I realized you were referring to the column on the monument. Good observation. Pretty cool. Thanks.
  3. I’m semi familiar with the 1969 and early 70’s Lincoln no FG but couldn’t find much, if anything at all, about a 77 D no FG. Thought it was a neat find. I know there were a whole bunch of 77’s produced so not sure if this is a result of die deterioration or an over polished die. Thanks.
  4. Yes, I totally agree about the damage and not being attributable. I came across it today and the only reason I posted it was because the date and mm were not completely demolished like the rest of the coin and the mm looked intact (for the most part). Wasn’t looking for a lot of feedback on this one. Was just curious if anyone had seen a possible mm in this configuration. Thank you Coinbuf.
  5. Unfortunately, this Lincoln has seen much better days but I thought I’d share this one. Couldn’t find this RPM listing anywhere, not even on Variety Vista. Anyone seen this variety of an RPM before? The coin is obviously “toast” but the date and mint mark are about the only devices that are somewhat preserved on this coin. And I don’t see how PMD could produce the defined edges of what appears to be a D on top of a D. Thanks.
  6. I am sorry for my delayed response on this thread. I have been overwhelmed with both family and health issues. As far as the Jefferson Just Bob, yes, it does have some very nice blue toning. Regarding the Lincoln, I have decided against opening up the sealed holder as of now. I believe I can definitely see true doubling on this cent especially “IN GOD” and the B&E in LIBERTY, and I believe as well on several letters of TRUST. To preserve this entire package of coins, I am going to take this proof set to a professional photographer friend of mine who says he can eliminate the glare of the plastic holder and take crystal clear pictures, at no charge. I admit I have been wrong in the past regarding doubling but I have never posted anything that I did not sincerely believe was doubled and/or needed professional advice on. I would hate to break open this set and be wrong. Once I have the photos I will post them for review and comment. Thank you all for your input and comments and I hope to have something to post very soon.
  7. I will have to get home this evening and open up the case to see the true color of the Jefferson. It does look to have a blue tint to it in the photo I posted but not sure if that was a result of reflection. I will let you know. Thanks.
  8. Thank you Conder101 for that observation (I realized it too but I’ve tried to stay away from my own post lately.....). I’m very familiar with the normal Philly 72’ DDO. Mine is obviously a San Fran Proof Cent and Set. The pictures I took were while the coin was still inside the plastic holder and still is. I feel certain that if I opened up the case and took some good, clear and unobstructed photos, there may very well be a change or opinion here on this coin. The plastic no doubt does distort the images, especially with the scratches. Just wondering if I should open up this case?? Not that this proof set is worth a fortune in and of itself, but would it be worth opening it up to better see this Lincoln?? Constructive comments are greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  9. Thank you very much Quintus. Please allow me to zoom in on and post these pics of the original photos I posted on this thread earlier today. I’m very sorry you have cataracts and I hope the doctors are wrong. I have to admit that I was somewhat “taken back” by the earlier post of, “This is a parody post, right?” Per Wikipedia, here is the definition I was rudely accused of: Quoted, copy and pasted straight from Wikipedia, with all rights reserved: “A parody (/ˈpærədi/), also called a spoof, a send-up, a take-off, a lampoon, a play on (something), a caricature or a joke, is a work which is created to imitate and/or make fun of or comment on an original work—its subject, author, style or some other target—by means of satiric or ironic imitation.” Rest assured, this is not a joke, a spoof, or an imitation. This is simply a beautiful Lincoln cent I possess that I believe to be a true proof variety. I would gladly appreciate an informative response from a third party as Quintus Arrius commented. Thank you.
  10. I’m sorry?? I know what parody means Sir but no, I’m not seeing something that is not there. Is that what you are referring to? With all due respect of course JKK.
  11. Never paid much attention to this proof set but I have now. These coins have never been out of the case. My parents purchased them new (there’s several sets I have here). There’s some scratches on the plastic case but the coins are flawless. Any value here on this Lincoln? Good doubling on most all the letters, especially on IN GOD and TRUST as well as LIBERTY. Can’t really see much on the date but the S Mint Mark is a bit odd. These proof sets I have are my mother’s so I highly doubt she is willing to part with them (but who knows....money talks....). It would be nice however to let her know what this cent is possibly worth. Thank you.
  12. Thank you very much for your reply. I am still learning here and I have a question: Granted, this dime is 76 years old (if my math is correct) and it shows some wear. The numbers in the date, “44”, are the only devices on this coin that have any discernible oddity. My understanding of strike doubling, as opposed to true die or hub doubling, is that it creates flat shelved images such as shown by mechanical doubling and die deterioration doubling. I am trying to comprehend why the “doubled images” above the date on this coin are rounded and not flat. Thank you!
  13. I know right..... I will try to get some better lighting and take some better photos. I’m not that familiar with RPD’s.
  14. I first have to apologize if any of my typing on this post is missapelled .... I just got done looking at about 200+ Mercury dimes and dang..... those dates are small 😁. Found a 1942 S inverted (pretty cool) and another oddity that I will also post for discussion, possibly a CUD. However, I decided to throw this one up on the forum to get some much appreciated feedback. Only looked at NGC and PCGS data and couldn’t find any mention of a 44’ DDO. I did see that someone posted on this forum somewhere about a possible 44’ double but it was MD. So... I have looked at my dime until I can’t see anymore and have taken the best pics possible right now. The potential doubling is not shelved at all and is rounded above the 4’s in the date. Not much else going on on the rest of the coin.Hopefully these pics will show enough detail to make a decision. Thanks!
  15. Thank you kbbpl for your concerns. I really appreciate it and I totally agree with you regarding the scammers out there. Fortunately, I sold it to a good friend of mine who is an AVID error collector. He has more money than he knows what to do with (must be nice, lol). I’ve known him probably half my life and he really enjoys helping people out that he likes. We both knew and agreed that this coin would never come close to bringing that much at an auction. This was quite simply just a friend helping out a friend, a beautiful thing.
  16. You are correct about that!!😳. Also, last night I decided to “clean”...... (yes, I know that is a sinful act and word in the coin community.....) around the ear of this cent to try to gently remove the green discoloration in order to better see the ear. I read online that Listerine mouth wash was gentle on coins. Well low and behold it worked great using a q-tip!!! It did not harm the coin in any way whatsoever and completely removed the gunk from the ear. There is definitely a very slightly raised surface in the same area as my pics. But, I’m now convinced that there is not enough material there to warrant a true doubled image even though it did fool me when I found it . Dang!!!
  17. And just for the record to all of you on this forum who I truly feel like calling my friends. I sincerely appreciate everyone who is so kind in commenting on my “finds” in a non sarcastic manner, even when I think I have hit the “jackpot” but then realize I have nothing more than, well..... a 1 cent coin....... I really enjoy this forum and I have learned a tremendous amount from the experts here, THANK YOU!! I am here to learn more about numismatics and feel that I have come a long way in a short period of time. This is the first coin I have ever sold. I was reluctant in letting it go but I could just not turn down the offer. It was sort of bitter sweet because it was definitely a beautiful error but, o well...... there’s more to be found. Thank you all.
  18. Would you politely further expand on what you exactly mean by “decimal points before the last two”? Just FYI, I did decide to sell it earlier tonight for 3 figures and there were not any “decimal points” involved. And the first number started with an EIGHT.
