Henri Charriere reacted to RWB in Major reason why modern coin info is incomplete
This excerpt, written May 1, 1915 by director Robert Woolley, explains in part why our modern coin design and creation information is so poor. The recipient was the slimy Farran Zerbe.

Chemical replacements for cyanide (i.e., thiosulfates) in bulk leaching have made passive extraction from certain tailings and low grade ores practical. (Several of the popular TV gold mining shows have mentioned this but it's not a dramatic or visually interesting process.)

Very impressive set! (Yeah, I cheated and looked.) 🤣  Set Registrants are notoriously incommunicado. The # 1 ranked guy's got the '13 you're looking for, having upgraded his former one which is sitting around doing nothing. The "gradeline" you've chosen, I feel, makes your set attractive.  EF for Extra Fine effort!

Q.A.: The truth is human beings tend to repress bad experiences. Uncle z mentioned legal guardians.  I wouldn't go fhat far. Your average member would suggest inadvisable or perhaps irrational, but come what may, my 2.3 followers can count on me coming clean. I expect my ill-advised but not illegal scheme to work and will post my dated postal receipt indicating a cash only purchase as well as a good shot of the pattern (the reverse is blank) right here for all to see. You'll see.  Right now, I am awaiting a reply to my order via e-mail.  If the artifact was sold, no problem: First come, first served.  If so, I am hoping they will issue me a credit. Who knows, maybe a top pop might make its debut. Would I advise anyone on the Forum to do likewise?  ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!

By law, I am required to give these representatives of the coin collecting community their props, as it were, but I cannot help but feel their authoritarive pitch is aimed almost exclusively at people who know nothing about the hobby beginning with some fundamentals like Sheldonization which lends itself perfectly to manufactured scarcity, fair market values, long-term trends and precisely what some of the extortionate prices demanded -- conveniently camouflaged  by more palatable installment payments -- are really worth when viewers, acting under time constraints are urged to get aboard now or lose out big-time on what appears to be a lifetime opportunity that may never come along again.
Old hands view these with knowing amusement.  Those who will get fleeced are likely the unacquainted or well-meaning retirees with grandchildren -- and sufficient largely uncommitted disposable income.  Caveat emptor!

I have always maintained the only acceptable comparison made would be to post this photo alongside a well-struck UNC which gives the average viewer exactly what one should look like as compared with what one actually sees. One needs a point of reference and baseline knowledge of this series' hight points. There are three things I find puzzling: the area about the cheekbone, the weak lettering in LIBERTY and the headdress feathers which lack definition. Forget the verdigris, is there even a hint of original mint luster to be found in any area of the coin?  I may be a certified rank amateur, but to me an uncirculated coin means just that.  I hesitate to see what the reverse looks like. Unable to Like in good conscience, no need to BUMP. I'll take a hike.

Mmm mmm mmm, I like this coin. I always was a sucker for nice even cobalt blue toning.
It's being auctioned off and just thought I'd share a good looking coin. Proof that good things can come out of Philly, the Philly Mint at least.
Any guesses what it will hammer for? The USD has closed the gap on the Euro, €17,000 is around $18,500 currently, money is going further now in overseas auctions/purchases than it has in little while. I haven't really noticed an increase in prices, €, either. LINK to the auction and description below. There is a video of the coin if you go to the auction website.
Cuba. 1 peso. 1915. Philadelphia. (Elizondo-5). (Km-15.1). Ag. Produced in a low mintage of only 100 examples. It has no marks, imperfections or defects, preserves the plenty luster and a fine veil of patina that, with a tilt of the wrist, reveals soft blue iridescence that elevates the eye appeal of the piece. Slabbed by NGC as PF 65. A similar example auctioned by Heritage Auctions in 2012 was sold for $18,000. This coin is exempt from any export license fee. Est...17000,00.

Family lore had it that my maternal grandmother owned a silver candlestick that had belonged to William Bradford. Given how well-to-do she was, and the quality of some of the other heirlooms, I reckon that’s semi-plausible, though I never saw the candlestick in question. So maybe it was real and maybe it was mythical.

While we’re at it, here’s another coin from my collection which depicts William Bradford and the Mayflower.

(It’s in an old “Fatty” NGC slab.)

I bought this recently to add to my bullion stack (though I did pay a bit above spot for it). I thought it was nice for a modern design. It’s also a standard Deep Cameo proof on one side, and a reverse proof on the other.

Also, I’m supposedly a descendant of William Bradford, the Pilgrim governor, so the theme is fun. My maternal grandmother was a member of the Mayflower Society.
