  1. I always like hearing stories about how people get into coin collecting; and usually it is about how they get BACK into it after stopping in their 2nd decade of life for a long time
  2. is the "https://coins.www.collectors-society.com/WCM" considered the "old" website? That's all I use. My sets are only custom sets, most of my coins are not eligible for any registry or points. I hope they don't drop that, since I sort of use it to keep track of my stuff $-wise etc.
  3. Thanks guys. last couple years I just remember seeing banners about it on the collection pages, I figured maybe they weren't doing it this year for COVID or something

It might depend on the kind of coin. They seem to be under grading old Islamic gold. I have cracked out several dinars from ANACS holders and sent in as raw to NGC and they always come back higher, sometimes by a lot. I pasted some ANACS to NGC ones I've had come back. I always just broke them out and sent as raw.
  5. This is great documentation to have with these. You have to go search that out separately? I have a Ross Perot silver round. That's as close as it gets for me
  6. that means it's worth it. someone else wants it. they even pearl harbored you with it in Nov. Your October surprise. They will pay. More.
  7. Did his website crash?!
  8. I thought you were just into beards?! Sounds like you've been all over this already - good. I tried to get some Louis XVI but got blown out. Couldn't even hang with Louis Philippe
  9. Hey Rev I just thought of you as I was going over the Heritage auction tonight, it's got a ton of what look like the Netherlands Willem gulden in a few hours. You probably know already but there they are: https://coins.ha.com/c/search-results.zx?No=360&N=3184+793+794+791+1577+792+2088+4294944029
  10. photographing the coins well is something I will need to figure out some day, especially slabbed ones. I appreciate you putting pictures of the actual setup and then these diagrams. I've always noticed coins looked best to me when on my desk, at night, and only lit by the computer monitor.
  11. check out bricklink.com, you can buy by the piece from sellers around the world/country. it's a lot cheaper than buying new sets. You can clean the parts when they show up. I've been getting my son tons of duplo parts through that since lockdown. If you had lego as a kid youtube is a rabbit hole of lego videos showing old sets from the 80s-90s
  12. My circle came out looking like that too. I remember having to visit the college library to use the internet so I could place a bid on a set of bicycle front fork shocks back in 2000, then having to get a postal money order made up to send to the seller to pay. It wasn't until about 2005 that my buying shifted almost entirely to coins and bullion.
  13. Check out the prices on some unopened LEGO sets from the 80s and 90s on Ebay and elsewhere; I remember seeing some of those Pirate ships at KMart as a kid and could not get them, and, apparently can never get them now either
  14. geez I didn't know it was so recent. I always hear about it, I never looked it up.
  15. How many years between these, which seem to be mid 90's, and the hyper-inflation trillion dollar notes we've seen? What a shame that it's so easy to make very attractive colorful banknotes, but another thing entirely to back up their value
  16. My kid is about same age as Rev's older one, and has been instructed that, like you, (1) my collection constitutes just part of the lavish grave goods that will fill my tomb; (2) I will haunt him if anything is missing; and (3) everything is also protected by a multi-generational curse
  17. that's a nice looking coin - should video it turning in the light while it's out of the slab
