  1. Yes, your plated coin will weigh more than one that is not.
  2. You can check Morgan dollar varieties on VAMworld.com. A variety that clear will be listed and illustrated - unless it's damage.
  3. [Warning - Attempted humor!] If you will plug one end of your earbud into an ear and the other directly into a standard 110v wired electric circuit, the house wiring will act as a huge antenna and we can all see what's going in there....or did I see that on the "SnoozeMax" show about the Jewish space yarmulke with attached laser fire-starting scroll? So hard to tell these days.....
  4. Might be minor aesthetic reasons - provided actual French Bronze was used and not the 95-Cu, 5-Sn/Zn originally chose in 1863. The color and sonority are different.
  5. Have never seen an asterisk on a coin. Why would there be a reference relating to the date? Can you provide more information?
  6. Two beat up quarters. Are we supposed to see something else, or comment on the awful Maryland quarter design?
  7. Stacks announced they were clearing out the backrooms, and odds 'n' ends several years ago. Never checked to see what that had although information was that it was all ordinary material bought as part of groups of coins. (The all or nothing offers.)
  8. Don't known how many ants it's worth. Do you mean the big red or black ants or the small brown ones?
  9. Yep, and with mirror, or semi-mirror on the fields. Has to be both sides, also.
  10. Naw....I checked the pay scale. Not even I work for that little.....
  11. They are interesting medals and scrip. "Challenge coin" is a convenient, if inaccurate, alliteration.
  12. That reverse looks like something out of the latest remake of "War of the Worlds."
  13. Common small change from West Germany (Bundesrepublik Deutschland). No meaningful value.
  14. This link will take you to an excellent article about sculptor Heidi Wastweet and her approach to medallic and coin art. Heidi was on the CCAC for a decade and is one of America's top bas relief sculptors. (I've checked the link - it's OK.) http://news.coinupdate.com/old-well-new-water-heidi-wastweets-approach-to-medallic-art/?fbclid=IwAR0xFEAOeU6lZfbnfHEbOI3-0k2TUWAekfUK8M-1EkBLudVGThDW5QNUd3c
  15. This is false. The body's immune system does not atrophy like an unused muscle.
  16. Anecdotally, the incidences of seasonal influenza, common colds, pneumonia and bronchitis are way down in areas where mask wearing is practiced, and by individuals wearing them. Part of this is from substantially reduced interpersonal contact where diseases are easily transmitted, and part of from masks and hand washing.
  17. Welcome! Members here will uniformly do their best to be honest and helpful - and occasionally a bit funny. Ask any question, even the ones that might seem trivial; therein lies what brings the hobby to life.
  18. "It's not over until it's over." The one where masks are required and used by all.
  19. M&R Department employees regularly worked with silver and gold amalgam. They simply heated the material until the mercury vaporized. A vent pipe collected and condensed some of the mercury, but much went into the air. I don't know how long each man worked in that department, or how many went insane from inhaling metal fumes. It was a hot, nasty, dirty, dangerous place to work....as was much of a mint.
  20. Nice. I'm sure others will soon chime in with suggestions about both the folders, and maybe others, now that they can see what you're asking about.
  21. Nannerz -- Humor is often used to both simplify and "lighten" a situation. Your description indicated that a lighthearted response would be better than harshly reminding you of the obvious. Clearly not useful in your circumstances. When posters add a little emoji, it is often intended to show the direction of a comment. A suspicion is that your response would have been similar if someone had been brutally clear. Members have no role in who does or does not choose to post. Plus, you do not have to pay to post -- you can signup for free. The primary benefits of NGC membership - including complimentary grading and submission privileges - are what you paid for. In any event, it is hoped you will continue to post questions and give the members a chance to respond to you and help you learn. I will avoid posting so you don't feel threatened.
  22. Presumably you mean "Whitman." Have you looked at other similar coin folders, or at those two your preferred choices?
