In Harrisburg until morning, but yah, kinda, given that I-81 wraps around Harrisburg on the north and west. In the opposite direction, I-81 splits off I-78 toward NYC up at Fort Indiantown Gap. I’m on a new heart Med, so I probably may have to stop near Bristol or Knoxville, and roll in the next day. The new Med kicks my stamina all to heck.

Greetings from the road at a rest stop on I-81 in Virginia, fetid hellhole of a state that it is. /KIDDING (or AM I?) Traffic is light, but the few drivers who are out here are NUTS. Lemme outta this state!

Happy Bird Day all. Last year, I was off to Lisbon and then London from JFK. This year, seemingly forever on I-81. Two consecutive Turkey Days sans turkey. I have a “rain check” for later.

Truly original high grade “steelies” are a likely winner, as a new generation of pseudo-7070 set collectors arrives. Good call by Roger.

I “feel you” on that. My coin holdings span the sublime to the ridiculous. I even catalog and attribute “tourist coins”, because it is a skill worth practicing. With the demise of European coinage in favor of the Euro, I find the previous coins speak to me greatly. Is a complete set of pre-euro stainless steel Italian 100 lire worth anything? No, but I like having them. They tell a story, and as I enter the twilight of my life, it’s the stories that I value the most. I am a natural raconteur, and I love preparing them.

One person who should know told me to try “soapy ammonia”, but I don’t even know what that is, really.

C’mon, Mod, we all know what’s really up. You’re selling off some stuff to add to your Single Malt Scotch Whisky stash, right?

I will watch Fox News, because it DOES RATE as the most “down the middle” news source, but no farther starboard than that.

It wants my email and permission to send me spam? Hard no. Anyone checking the box is a fool. You are agreeing to a privacy policy you cannot even see. THIS is what scams look like. Pay attention.

I believe just one of the reasons new collectors get all “slab happy” is the oft-repeated bromide that unless it’s in plastic, it’s hard to sell. If that’s true, and I dispute that it is, then you’re looking at the wrong selling venue. Just as not every coin needs to be slabbed, also not every coin needs to be sold by a company that only sells slabs. Tautological yes, but so very important. Serious coins need slabs. Fun coins do not. And even still, many once slabbed coins WILL BE CRACKED OUT, and not always to resubmit them. Some days it seems every coin that gets TO the USA, or COMES FROM China, needs authentication. Both for obvious reasons.

And literally greater than 99.9% of the time, that answer is “no”. Truly, if you even have to ask, the answer is almost always “no”. There is a cost to doing it. Is there a benefit? Maybe yes, maybe no, but for nearly all beginner cases, the cost vastly outweighs the benefit. It should never be a goal per se.

Interesting piece. From the pictures, I do not see obvious "wear" where I would expect to see it, but neither is it pristine. Lots of marks. The obverse is nicer than the reverse. Decent strike. Not much cartwheel lustre. It hangs out in the ambiguous 55-62 range, depending on who is in the grading room.

Great idea. Most have never picked up even a Whitman Red Book, sadly. That should be the entry ticket, assuming we’re talking U.S. coins.

If you are addressing the Pennsylvania 4-4 case, she had no opportunity to read the briefs, so she didn’t recuse, she was ineligible. The record on that case was HUGE with all the amici participating. She was on the 7th Circuit, and had a great reputation, so I don’t know what you mean by “no bench experience”. Maybe no trial level, but who cares? Trial court experience is NOT helpful for an Associate Justice.
