  1. What about Central States? Two shows a year. I think they could find another venue that might draw dealers and the public.
  2. Why does Chicago seem to have a lock hold on the convention?
  3. Interesting and sad parting statement. Change and fiscal discipline are hard, but sometimes necessary. I hope that the ANA takes her words to heart in making their decisions.
  4. Photography an obsession - you bet, Same as coin collecting. You want to improve your collection just as you want to take better photographs of it. Most of us (generally speaking and making an assumption) who are interested in macro-photography probably already have semi-expensive camera equipment that we use in other endeavors. While a macro lens can be expensive, there are other cheaper ways to obtain similar results. I appreciate Brandon, Kurt, Skip and Roger's contributions - I just skip over some of the back and forth...
  5. Good to hear that you will be visiting (hopefully our borders will be open) the Isle of Man. We are still not sure if there will be a TT next year and this usually falls at the end of May beginning of June, so prices for travel and accommodation always peak then. Manx Museum in Douglas is a must. As is the Aviation Military Museum close to the airport in Ballasalla/Castletown. The Island is a beautiful place and you must visit the castles in Castletown and Peel. Travel on the Steam train from Douglas to Castletown. Also the Electric Tram up Snaefell mountain and it also travels to Ramsey in the north of the Island too. There are no set coin shops at the moment, but there are a few antique shops, but of course they may not be still there in a few months time. What they did not mention and something I recommend is the woolen shops. Excellent quality and interesting products.
  6. Kurt, I've contacted a couple of folks in the IOM for additional coin related sites to see on your visit. Hopefully I will hear back from them soon.
  7. To aid in the development of a series of journals, too much information for regular posts or a single journal on the Soverign's history, designs, collectibily and possibly varieties - not errors. The poll is to determine what level of information should I include or even if there is enough interest out there to go to the trouble in the first place.
  8. Nice over date - not much hop on the diagnostics.
  9. Thanks for the link - I'm hoping more members will start threads and encourage others to join in the conversations. We can all make this forum better for beginners and veterans alike.
  10. The ANA sponsored a virtual seminar presented by Rick Snow. It is recorded if you haven't seen it. It should be posted on the ANA website in a week or two. While it was only two hours long compared to his class that's something like twenty two hours - he gave an interesting presentation - at least to me who has never really paid all that much attention to cents. They are an interesting series. As is the Brisitsh Penny (had to throw that in). Almost makes me want to purchase Rick's book and add it to my pile of to be reads. It's a pretty high pile currently. anyone else watch it and have comments on it?
  11. Thanks Skip - I guess looking for it on my tablet using a 14X loupe isn't the right way to go about it.
  12. I've been posting much more than usual to stir up conversation. I've invited friends to join in and have a few non-controversial threads in progress. I'm seeing members chime in once in a while that haven't been on in a long time. Hopefully this all will continue and increase. A little decorum will go a long way. I completely gave up on a couple of the threads that went down hill and missed Dena's post - what thread was it in? I'd like to read it. While the threads that I gave up on is a personal choice - I do not believe that honest disagreements are a bad thing - just don't make it personal.
  13. Sounds like a lot of fun - hope everything is open for you.
  14. The island is small, but they did have some cases. I heard the were down to zero, but may have had a second wave and are being extra cautious. What time of year are you thinking about going?
  15. WCC brought up Fisch counterfeit dectors in another one of my treads - and even though your Noble is silver, you mentioned platinum Nobles. Here's my dector for it.
  16. I mentioned Chards during your last trip - this trip, not so much coin related. Stop by the Lexicon Book shop in Douglas. The Laxley wheel, if you like TT motorcycle racing - go when they are having an event - they close down the roads, old Victorian railway, Victorian theatre, woolen mills, just depends on what you like. take a ride on the horse drawn carriage along the Doiglas promenade. I'll try to think of more.
  17. I have the full set (six), minus the ringer - it wasn't around then. I have yet to use them. They go side by side with my 1800s sovereign scale and weights.
  18. Haven't heard anyone mention Fisch wallets in a long time. Did you obtain them in the 70s or 80s? I forget when they first came out,
  19. I haven't seen that one before - thanks for sharing.
