    2020 Mayflower Anniversary Silver Medal
I have not been active in this society for a few years.  I have been slowly selling off my collection.
I have been battling a rare blood cancer.  I may only have only a couple more chemo treatments left, fingers crossed.  Prays are welcome!
I have lots of time on my hands and been forced to retire middle of last year.  I decided that once I am indeed in remission, full time retirement
    is not really for me.
I have recently  started to submit coins to NGC once again.  I got my results back for the 400th Anniversary Silver Medal.

Time to switch gears.  Focusing on buying some investment property and need some capital. I haven't really added much
to my coin collection in awhile either.  I decided all my SAC, Presidential dollars and Silver Eagles must go.  If anyone is
interested, please look at my sets and let me know what tweaks your interest.  I am not done being part of this society just
    clearing house...

Only a week from the coins being received to Final. Keep up the excellent work NGC!
NGC is firing on all cyclinders lately. I am very impressed with the timeliness and a few of my grades.

WOW...The Denver mint is still only .7 Mil??
US Mint just updated their coin mintage thus far for 2009. It is very hard to believe there is still only .7 million of the 2009 SAC "D"'s.

    A SAC star is born...
I found this error on a 2009 P SAC dollar from a bank roll. I don't collect errors unless it a true variety from NGC. I know this will be a one of a kind indeed. This can be seen with the naked eye as well.
The question I have how would the "star" get there and where would it have come from. It looks larger than the stars on the edge. Would this be considered a "Die Clash"? There are two parallel lines that are near this star as well but does not show up on the picture below.
    Comments anyone??
    Enjoy your weekend!

    going going gone...in 2 weeks
The Mint is now sold out of the 2 roll 2009 lincoln set after only 2 weeks....wow...amazing...glad I ordered two boxes last week. The Uncirculated Lincoln Comm. is official sold out as well. I did manage to order some of the new Louis Braille coins earlier today. Looks like the 2009 Sacagawea 250 dollar boxes are back in stock again....get them quick....

    Finally but...
My registered package finally arrived after 10 days from Sarasota to Wisconsin. It never took that long before...but get this...Another package left NGC a week later and I got that one today...less than a week...Did I pay for the first one to take a extended vacation thru the country side?...hmmm....
Anyways...thanks for the special responses I got to hang in there. So what was all the worry you ask? It wasn't for any expensive or older coin but a 2009 SAC. I really like the reverse design and it seems that the US Mint made very little thus far in the Denver mint....it is scarce to me...

  8. walnutto
    Indeed....quite the service indeed!
Anyone else have registered packages lost in the mail over the last few months? I have been expecting one from NGC since it departed March 9th from Sarasota to Wisconsin. There is no info on the USPS site since it left there and its been 9 days. It has never taken over a week before usually its 3-4 days. It would be a shame because I may never get to replace those coins with any other ones like it.

Because PCGS overgrades their modern coins and everyone knows they can buy it cheaper with a PCGS label.
I have stated before that NGC needs to start exclusive sets that only allow NGC graded coins. There are too many sets with most or all PCGS coins in the NGC registry. This is really unfair that buy the coin and the label and are given no credit at all for this. I believe PCGS coins should have to be sent in to be CrossOver within a certain timeframe or have their points reduced to the next grade level since most would never cross over in the first place. I know because I have only a couple that crossed over and thats a very low percentage!!
Come on NGC.....lets get on board and get our own exclusive sets!

Banks may not order any more future rolls???
Isn't it strange that the local bank branches which is part of a large midwest banking instition has decided not to order any more business strike presidential dollar rolls? Their reasoning is that they believe there is more than enough dollars in circulation now. SAY WHAT?? Isn't that one of the main reasons why the US Mint and our government started with dollar coins again for circulation is to eventually replace or least reduce the amount of paper currency it has to print??? Most European countries have done just that and it has been a success for them.
The local branches here have been very good in the past to allow me to order whole $1000 boxes at times without complaint.
I tried to order a box of the new Native American dollars from them and the answer was no. They didn't see the need to do that.
The question I have for those collectors that depend on their local banks to provide rolled coins to add to their collection:
Isn't it the law that no bank can deny your request for any currency that is offered by the US Mint for circulation???
I have no problem to pay a service fee that all bank branches pay to acquire $1000 boxes. But to simply say...Sorry, you can not order anymore dollar rolls because we do not want to bother with it!....Hmmmm. No wonder the SBA and SAC's failed to replace the dollar bill because banks seem to have the power to decide for us.
    Your opinion is greatly appreciated!

    Open and Closed Set Types
From my last journal entry, more agree with me and a few diehard PCGS collectors do not. They do not believe they should give up there ranking now. I take great pride when I select coins to send them in for grading to NGC. I do not send in bulk like most dealers who do not care about the coins' appearance just the grade. When I purchase coins for my registry, I look for only NGC coins first after all, this is a NGC Collectors Society. How would you feel if you joined a Corvette Club and to learn that other sports cars were allowed to be part of it and win awards that should really be given to Corvettes first??
    Anyways....I said my peace...for now...
My suggestion, since we all have to accept what is in place, is for NGC to start new Set Types for NGC coins alone for those that are diehard NGC fans. I, myself, not only buy the coin but the holder which is just as important. Then PCGS fans can continue adding to the existing open sets and NGC collectors can join both the open and closed sets.

Thanks for everyone's input...we call can make this Society better and enjoy the journey as well.

PCGS SMS and First Day Issues most will not Crossover!
The registry really should be for NGC graded coins alone. PCGS has their own registry and those coins should not be allowed in here. I have several Satin Finish Presidential dollars MS69 that I know will not crossover. If you can visibly see stains or marks with the naked eye, everyone knows that they would never be a MS69 SMS with NGC. There should be an allowance for those collectors that only want NGC in their registries.
I challenge every collector to submit their SMS MS69's to NGC to crossover. All those PCGS MS68 First Day Issue dollars would be just MS67's. Perhaps we should take a vote and see how everyone feels. I do know that some of my PCGS dollars I would be ashamed to sell because they just don't measure up.
Maybe The Collectors Society should review their practice to allow PCGS coins in here or allow less points for the same grade. One thought is to have NGC have a "Just Review" status to make sure the PCGS coins are indeed an equal grade. Those coins then would have that info attached to that serial number.
This may sound like sour grapes but something does need to change so this Society favors NGC coins over PCGS. If not, then any award given to those that have many or all PCGS coins brings less importance and meaning to this Society.
I know I am not alone in believing this, its not like the PCGS collectors have no where to belong but we are not welcome on theirs!! I would love to get some responses and feedback from fellow members.
    I do love collecting though!

More times than not, modern coins do not crossover.
With all the hype how PCGS coins are valued higher, it doesn't always mean their grades equal NGC. I have come to a conclusion that PCGS over grades most modern coins meant for circulation. Perhaps they don't value modern coins importance so they don't examine as carefully as they do with the Commemorative coins and the older classics. I usually buy a few PCGS modern coins hoping they crossover to NGC to keep my registry as close to NGC coins. I use to just submit them without any real examinations but after a few don't get cross overed...I started looking at all my modern PCGS coins.... I would say that 75% are a disappointment. I think the NGC registry needs to reevaluate the point system. I see that most SMS and business strikes in most sets are PCGS. They are cheaper to purchase because of the inflated population.
So...after stating that....How do we feel about this? Should PCGS modern coin points be reduced to reflect this? There really should be more incentive to have NGC modern coins in the registy sets here.

    Sometimes I even surprise myself!
I've only been an active member here for 2 years and I can honestly say I am obsessed with the modern coins. I know that most seasoned collectors don't really consider modern coins worth the time to bother with them. I do appreciate the early designs and especially the history that goes with them. My pocketbook wouldn't allow me to invest with many early coins.
I learned from a local coin dealer that they only way to learn how to grade coins is just start looking myself. It was expensive early on with "dumb" submissions... but....little by little...you do get the hang of what to look for and what not to bother with....most of the time...
Here's is my latest submissions, I am quite happy with the results makes me wish I could do this full time.

Its easy to weigh the sets from Ebay
It looks like each year can vary just a couple of tenths but I weighed the 2005 Silver and Clad Quarter proof sets and here's what I found out.
All 5 Silver Proof Quarters with the plastic case = 76.8 grams
All 5 Clad Proof Quarters with the plastic case = 73.2 grams
It might help if someone has all the sets straight from the Mint to weigh them and post all the results so we can protect ourselves from cheats!

anyone interested in trading their "P" FDI MS67 for a "D" FDI MS67?
I just got notice from NGC of one of my two FDI submissions that I got three 2007 Thomas Jefferson D NGC MS67 FDI...WOW! not bad since I only submitted eight of the "D"s. I didn't get any 67's from the "P" mint though.
I have one of these 2007 D Thomas Jefferson NGC MS67 FDI on Ebay Item # 140152225527.
Is Anyone interested in trading their "P" FDI MS67 for one of my "D" FDI MS67?
The quality really improved at least on the box of Denver mint I received. I would willing to bet there will be at least one MS68 found this time....any wagers??...
Let me know if anyone wants to trade....
    Thanks!

PCGS does not always grade stricker than NGC
I submitted (7) 2007 Adams MS66 to crossover to NGC. Only two of them got the MS66 grade to crossover...This makes me wonder if we are all paying too much for slabbed PCGS when their grades could be less than than NGC. Sounds like more hype than real to me. Just had to add my two cents!
Has anyone else come across this recently?

Tempted to return this sets but not sure if I would get any better next time.
I gotta tell ya, these new Presidential Proof Sets are the worst I've seen from the US Mint in awhile. Remember the commemorative Old Mint from last year. Most had fine scratches and/or tiny pit marks. They are on these proofs as well including most are stained as well. If you look at the design closely, you will see why it will be near impossible to obtain a perfect PF70 on these coins. Also, I have found what appears to be exact die breaks on the edges on all 4 presidents at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock when looking at Lady Liberty. Looks like it was there before the edges got the incused lettering.
What would cause this die break on every one? or am I seeing it wrong? Anyways, I bought 2 sets of NGC PF69 for about $65 which would be about what it would be for me to grade them myself. I would guess that a complete PF70 set would be well over $1000 because it would take hundreds of sets to find just 4 perfect ones.
The Mint better wake up and start getting these right or most will stop early on collecting these proofs!!
UPDATE: After further review and thought, those very well could be designed "stops" so the incursed lettering would be placed in the same locations on the edge each time.....Any thoughts or are these indeed a die break? Either way, they are causing some separation with the edge or waviness on the face.

    What does the "W" mean?
I was going through some of my graded SBA coins. I came across this 1999 P SBA MS67 W. What does the "W" mean?
I checked the number 119661-066 and it doesn't show anything other the norm. If you know what the "W" means and if this is rare, please let me know!
    Thanks

No Respect for one Susan B Anthony dollar coin
My life and times for me is a dark and unrespectful journey. I was first born with several other millions just like me. Except early on, my creator had decided to recreate me to be more pleasing to the beholder and make my rim larger. To me I think my cousins looked just fine the way they were. I had been given a special status....or least my creator called me special. Along the way, we were all given homes, some in nice warm cloth homes and others in these tight paper tunnels....some called them rolls. I believe I must have been asleep for quite some time and not sure what happened but somehow my siblings were gone. I found myself trapped with some different coins and not at all similar to me other than the same size. Then one day after being stored away for years, some nice person or I call him my new owner, brought me home. He went though roll after roll before he discovered me. We were equally delighted. My new owner sent me away to this nice honorable place or least I thought so at first, to have me graded. Once again, I was disrepected and placed in a wrong holder and grade and sent back to my new owner. He was upset and emailed the people responsible for this mishap. He sent me away again and once again they placed me in a wrong holder and grade. After a few more angry emails and phone calls, I was sent away again and finally I was in my new home except, what my owner still believes, is the wrong grade. I am in route back to my owner and hopefully I will stay. I don't know about you but its not easy being a SBA wide rime coin. And for the readers, the moral of the story, never give up and stand up for what you believe is right regardless of the grading company!

Went thru a few boxes only to find a few worth grading.
After 5 boxes of "P" dollars looking for that infamous edgeless coin and taking time to pick out a few that was worth grading. I figured I had one MS67 and the rest MS66. I was correct on all of them except one MS65. My eyes must have tricked me again...
Being from a small populated area in Wisconsin, the banks don't get the new coins in right away, making it impossible to ever get that gem MS67FD. I think there's too much weight put on FD when its the same grade as the rest. Making it more a rich mans game to play than the normal guy.
So, I finally broke down and started my registry on some dollars. SBA....I will never be number one that list.... I do feel pretty good being ranked 3 on the Presidential dollars for now. Now, I must start taking photos of these coins too. I never knew how energized one can get when you start competing with other collectors. I thought I bought too much before but now....I think I can cut back on gas, lights and food to squeeze out a few more purchases....God HELP me!!!

Now that the new dollars are out...
It appears that ignorance once again rules the novice coin collector. Now that the new dollars are out, everyones looking for those "error" coins and guess what...There are buyers for the incuse lettering with some being upside down. Fools and their money soon part....What ever happened to integity???...Anyways.....I have land in Florida to sell too!!

    May the real Franklin standup
I just purchased a complete collection of the 1956 NGC PF68 penny thru half dollar. They are in the older NGC holders. I noticed that the franklin doesn't have marked Type 1 or Type 2. My question is....is there a plain 1956 Franklin that isn't either a Type 1 or 2? and what is the diffence between those types? Thanks!
