There is no easy answer to your liquidation problem. You'll find that coins with higher values will be easier to sell than those of lower value. As an example, a world coin with a catalog value of 200 dollars will be a desirable coin. Especially if it comes from a very collectible and popular country. Germany, Britain, Switzerland etc....Even with that criteria met, you will have a very difficult time getting 80%. Most likely, not possible.
A world coin with a catalog value of 8 dollars ( I suspect a VAST majority of your stuff would fall in this range, or less), is virtually not salable at any percentage of that value. These are the type of coins that are in 'grab bags' and junk boxes. When I had a shop, I had '10 for a dollar' and '5 for a dollar' world coin bins. Needless to say, the coins in these bins cost me pennies. Any more and I could not have bought them.
Quite simply, good stuff sells, not so good stuff doesn't help anyone......

I think the Stack's link is new. I never knew that was there, just found it.
Even if not, the fact that it's there with blatant errors of fact is just astounding.
It is indeed just a link to an old thread ATS......

I sent them a copy of my tax number and completed another form,I believe it was something they sent me. I became tax exempt as a buyer.
I'm sorry I don't have a link, but it is possible to do. I think it took a week or 10 days to hear back.

That's a shame, Wade was a nice guy.
Years ago, probably the early 80's, we were down at the FUN show. There was an extremely cute girl working in the auction lot viewing room (they used to rent girls from a temp agency). I made it a point to view lots a couple of times a day just to be able to chat with her. I had my name and city on my show badge. So did Wade.
So, anyway, days in and this girl is talking to Wade while he was viewing lots. He had his name and city on his badge also. She recognized that he lived near me and asks him a few things about me. Hours later, we cross paths on the floor. "Oh man, you've got it made"! "What are you talking about ?", I ask him. "Marcia (or whatever her name was) was asking me about you up in the viewing room". "Oh wow, thanks for the tip "! and I head right up there. Marcia seems pleased to see me and I make a dinner date with her for that night, her last day as an employee. She gives me her address and I make reservations at a nice place. I stopped at a florist and bought some lovely flowers. I get to the address she gave me and it was a vacant lot ! Certainly one of the cruelest jokes ever pulled on me. I never would understand why a girl would do something like that.
On topic, I did plenty of deals with Wade and he was a straight shooter. RIP Wade.......

I wonder if they had a press set up at the convention striking these.
I didn't go to that one that year.

When I was a kid I bought a 'Lincoln smoking a pipe' cent.

Sorry I can't attribute this piece, but, what appears as graffiti on the obverse would bother me.
It bothers me a bit that the seller doesn't point it out either.

Hi offers might be a little "stale" by now - kind of like a 1900 fruit cake.
Wait a minute.......Are you implying that a fruitcake can get stale ?
I've been stockpiling them since the 60's......

I sent him a small sampling....We'll see how his offers are.....

I'm going to start collecting these....I think they're going to really catch on.......

Their stuff was always beautiful. They were first class in quality.
It was just difficult to maintain a 'secondary' market interest. It was kind of like, anyone that had interest in any particular issue, purchased that issue.
Then, when they decided to sell, there were few takers as a collectible. Of course, intrinsic value was always there. People didn't have an internet to help with promotion or resell.
Once upon a time, Deak-Perera made a two-way market in FM issues. That was interesting for a while, and gave both buyers and sellers an avenue. They ran into money laundering trouble before their collapse and that was the end of that......

Another mushy casting.....sorry......
You know, with the massive quanity of these that have been produced,
(I bought my first one as a kid in the 60's at our 'Historical Building'),
can you imagine the excitement that runs through the house when someone
finds one in grandpas old cigar box?
It really is a little sad...... -
After a lifetime of buying/selling, I know I made some good bucks from FM material.
Thanks Joe ! RIP......

Real AR denarius?
in US, World, and Ancient Coins
Posted
It looks like the 'thinnest' denarius I've ever seen.
I'm afraid I don't like it also.
