    An amazing event too attend
Hi Everyone. First off I would like to offer my condolences too the family of a fellow collector here on our chat boards who passed away. He was to meet me at the FUN Show and I found out from his family the night after he was too arrived that he had passed away. I will not mention him by name out of respect for the family and their privacy. I will miss him as he was a mentor and a friend. RIP Sir. Well as most of you know I attended my first FUN Show this year in Orlando. Being a native Floridian I cannot believe I had never been to this show. It was my first coin show I have ever attended and all I can say is WOW. I arrived on Wednesday and was able to set my display up with no problems thanks to the hard work of the FUN Show staff. I wandered around the bourse some on the first day trying to take it all in. On Thursday I met Michael and Emily Prescott (VUMC409) who flew down for the show. Talk about some amazingly nice people. I had been looking forward to meeting them both for a long time and what a better place then the FUN Show. Michael and I have been trading a selling Lincoln pennies for quite sometime and I have to thank him for all his help. I could not have put my set together without his help and many more like him. We spent the day again wandering around the bourse. Michael and I both picked up a few coins we needed. Got too meet a lot of dealers that I have done business with a several other collectors that post on the journals here. We attended the NGC Luncheon on Saturday and that was a highlight for me. The luncheon was outstanding, the food was great and we got too meet several of the people that make NGC the top company that it is. We got too talk with Mark Salzberg, Max Spiegel and Alison Emery just to name a few. My 1959-2008 Lincoln Memorial circulation issue registry set display went very well and I received a packet to display it at the American Numismatic Association National Money Show in Atlanta, Georgia February 27-March 1, 2014. Time to get busy. All in all it was a thrilling experience and I am glad I attending the show and got to meet all the wonderful people I did. I would also like to congratulate all of this years award winners. My friend Michael Prescott (VUMC409) won a journal award this year. Great job Michael. In closing I leave you with a picture of Emily and Michael Prescott and I at the NGC luncheon. As always, thanks for looking and Happy Collecting

    FUN Show 2014
Hi everyone. The 2014 FUN Show starts next week here in Florida. It is being held in Orlando and as I mentioned before my 1959-2008 Lincoln Memorial circulation issue registry set will be on display. Just wanted to post a quick picture to show everyone what it is going to look like. There are 124 coins in the set and you are limited to 7 cases. With my cover page info and my coins I was able to have them fit into the 7 cases. This is just 1 of 7. I think it turned out pretty good. I am looking forward too seeing and finally meeting a lot of you. Happy New Year and safe travels to the Sunshine State. As always, thanks for looking and Happy Collecting

Coin toss for the 1963 game.
Hi everyone. Today the military academies of the Army and Navy are playing their annual game. The coin that was used today for the coin toss was a 1923 Peace Dollar that was to be used by President Kennedy for the 1963 game. The game was postponed and played a few weeks later as the country was still reeling from the assassination. A few weeks later Midshipman Tom Lynch received a letter from Cyrus Vance who was Secretary of the Army at the time along with the coin as a memento for the game of which Navy won that year 21-15 lead by Navy quarterback Roger Staubach. Tom Lynch went onto a very successful career in the Navy and served as the superintendent of the Naval Academy from 1991-94. Lynch was moved by the history of the coin and occasion that he donated this coin to the Naval Academy. It is this coin that was used today for the coin toss. This is not the actual picture of the coin used today but just one to show the beauty of this coin

1959-Date Lincoln Memorial Circulation Issue Registry Set
Hi Everyone. First I would like too wish all a Happy Thanksgiving. Even during my roughest days I have always had things in my life to be thankful for. Just yesterday I added the final 2 coins too my 1959-Date Lincoln Memorial Circulation Issue Registry set. I feel a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction but I also realize the this set is really far from complete. I will always be looking for upgrade and replacement coins and of course each year adding the new ones that come out. Currently there are a 150 coins in this set. I am so excited too be displaying this set at the January FUN Show in Orlando. Thanks too my good friends Michael and Don. You guys have made this possible. Here is just one example you will find within my set. It is a NGC MS69RD 1994D with a current NGC population of 3. Thanks for looking and as always Happy Collecting.

Orlando, Florida January 8-12. Hope to see you there
Hi everyone. I have decided to display my Lincoln Memorial circulation issue registry set at this years January FUN Show in Orlando, FL starting January 8th and ended on the 12th. For those who do not know FUN stands for "Florida United Numismatist and it is one of the biggest coin shows of the year. I will be displaying my registry set in a non competitive display since this is the first time I have ever displayed it and if all goes well I will enter it in a competitive display in the future. I will be joined by one of my fellow collects dcq at the show this year as well as several other fellow collectors that I converse with here at the Collectors Society. This will be my first coin show that I have ever attended so I am very excited. I also am a little nervous about displaying my set since as I said this is my first time showing it. There are a lot of fellow Lincoln Memorial collectors who have helped me along the way and encouraged me to show my set. VUMC409 and dcq I could not have done it without you guys and I cannot thank you enough for the help and inspiration. I hope to see a lot of you there and if you are attending send me a message and maybe we can get together. I will leave you with a picture of my NGC MS69RPL 2002 Lincoln Memorial. NGC has graded 12 in MS69RD with this being the lone MS69RPL example. I hope you enjoy my coin and as always, thanks for looking and Happy Collecting

NGC Population of 30 with 6 graded higher
Hi everyone. Here is a picture of my NGG MS66 1999 Wide AM Lincoln Memorial with a current NGC population of 30 in this grade with 6 graded in MS67. The Wide AM Lincoln came about when mint personnel mistakenly used the reverse dies that were meant to be used on the proof Lincolns for that year. These coins continue to grow in popularity and in increased value. Thanks again to Robecs Images for the great photo. I hope you enjoy my coin and as always, thanks for looking and Happy Collecting

Closing in on 100% set completion
Hi Everyone. I bought this NGC MS67RD 1963D Lincoln Memorial with a current NGC population of 3. This example was just recently added to the registry. I had tried unsuccessfully to purchase one of the other examples awhile back so I am glad this one came along. It is only the 4th coin in my entire 1959-Date Lincoln circulation issues registry set that I paid over the listed value and boy did I have to pay for this one. This coin had listed at TeleTrade with a very high reserve and was offered 3 times with no takers. It eventually showed up at Heritage Auctions with the same very high reserve but this time I felt that there might be some bidders so I placed a decent bid above the reserve and was successful. The 2 major auction houses I mentioned had the reserve set at just under 3 times what the coin list for. Yes, you read that right. I do not have any buyers remorse because it is an outstanding example. On another note I should have my 1959-Date Lincoln circulation issue registry set complete by the middle of next month. The 2 coins I need I have made arrangements to buy and a couple of upgrades. I have to thank VUMC409 for helping me with those coins. Thanks Michael as I could not have done it without your help. I must also thank Bob with Robecs Images for his outstanding photo work that he has been doing on my collection. Hopefully the set will be complete with photos by the cutoff time for this years registry awards. It has been 6 years in the making and there are still a few more upgrades possible that I will keep my eye open for. I have not decided what my next pursuit will be but of course I will keep you posted. I hope you enjoy my latest addition and as always, thanks for looking and Happy Collecting

    NGC MS69RD 1994 and 1994D Lincoln Memorials
Hi everyone. First off I have got too thank Bob from Robecs Images on the outstanding work he has been doing for me. Just over half way through my 59-Date Lincoln Penny set. He are some recent images. The first is a picture of my NGC MS69RD 1994 Lincoln Memorial with a current NGC population of one. The second is my NGC MS69RD 1994D Lincoln Memorial with a current NGC population of 3. Both of these coins were cherry picked by Mark Di Lauro from datentype. I hope you enjoy the pictures and as always, thanks for looking and Happy Collecting

NGC population of 9 with none graded higher
Hi everyone. Here is a awesome looking photo from Robecs Images an picture of my NGC MS68 1991 Lincoln Memorial with a current NGC population of 9 with none graded higher. I have got to thank Robec for pointing out the doubling from the top of Lincoln's nose to the bottom and from the bottom lip to the chin. Also some doubling of both the ones in the date and Liberty. I think this coin might also qualify for a proof like designation if re-submitted. Great eye Bob and thanks

    Down too 10 and counting
Hi everyone. Today I added a NGC MS67 1979D Lincoln Memorial with a population of 14 too my 1959-2008 Lincoln Memorial registry set. With the addition of this coin I am down too 10 coins to complete this set. This set consist of 124 coins. I have been working on this set for about 6 years now and I am getting close. With the addition of this coin and a few others that I will add in the next week or so I will be down to 13 coins to complete my 1959-Date set which currently contains 150 coins. I know my fellow Lincoln Memorial circulation issue collectors will tell you that it is getting difficult to find the top graded coins in this set. I will continue to replace my PCGS examples with NGC ones as I come across them. I hope you enjoy my picture and as always thanks for looking and Happy Collecting

    More photo upgrades
Hi Everyone. Recently I have been sending out some coins too a fellow collector to have some photo work done. Here is an example of one of his photos. It is my NGC MS67RD 1973D Lincoln Memorial. NGC currently grades 6 at this level with none finer. I have read over the years all the post about having pictures in your set and how most collectors like too see what others have and dislike the obscured sets. I want too give a shout out too one of my fellow penny collectors who inspires me and whom I have developed a friendship with all over the thrill of coins. VUMC409 has recently upgraded his photos in his sets and I think they are amazing. Michael keeps me on my toes and I thank him for it. I hope you enjoy my picture and as always, thanks for looking and Happy Collecting

    Very nice example
Hi everyone. Recently I decided to have my registry set pictures upgraded to better present my sets. I want to thank ROBEC for the awesome photo work. This is my PCGS MS66RD+ 1972DDO that is CAC verified. PCGS current population of 5 with 18 graded higher and NGC population of 0 with 8 graded higher. I was fortunate to pick this coin up about 2 years ago for just over $900. Not too bad considering the last MS66RD+ PCGS example sold for $1763 Heritage Auction 10/12 and the last 3 PCGS MS67RD examples sold for $9600, $10,575 and $8225 all within the last year. I have yet to see a NGC MS67RD example come too auction. Not sure if I will ever be able to upgrade this one so for now I am very happy with this coin. I have thought about trying to cross it over but I have never been successful in my crossover attempts and I would not want to loose the + designation. I hope you all enjoy my pictures and as always, thanks for looking and Happy Collecting

One of the few in my registry sets
Hi everyone. I hope all of you are have a great weekend. I recently sent part of Lincoln Memorial business strike registry set to a fellow collector to have them photographed. There have been some post on here about presenting a accurate image of a coin especially if you are the buyer. I bought this coin knowing that it was toned. Surprisingly this coin was toned already when graded by NGC. If you enter the certification number it will bring up NGC's photo of this coin and even though the picture is darker you can see the toning on the coin. It is one of the few toner within my collection and I have to thank Robec for the great photos. I hope you enjoy the picture and as always, thanks for looking and Happy Collecting

    2 Major Die Cracks
Hi everyone. There have been some post by fellow members lately in reference too images that show the coin for what it is and not trying to hide flaws and enhance it's qualities through various photo hardware. I recently stated in a previous post that I was having my Lincoln Memorial circulation issue registry set photograph by a fellow collector. He normally sends me at least 5 or more images for both the obverse and reverse of each coin. I know a lot of auction houses and sellers try to hide flaws but I think the overall appearance of a coin should be shown for what it is and sometimes those flaws add character to a coin. Here is a picture of my NGC MS67RD 1960 Large Date Lincoln Memorial and you can see the 2 major die cracks on the obverse of this coin. One extending from the hairline too Lincoln's brow and the other across the bottom. I really like how they show up in this photo especially since I was not able to capture a good image of them. I also want to congratulate one of my fellow collectors who has work very hard lately on his collection and just added one sweet Lincoln Memorial with his NGC MS69 1986D Lincoln Memorial to his collection. You guys should check it out under VUMC409 sets. I hope you enjoy the pictures and as always thanks for looking and Happy Collecting

    Updating my images
Hi everyone. I hope everyone is having a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day Weekend. I just got back from one of the National Cemetery's here in Florida paying my respects too some family and friends that are interned there. I just recently decided to have some photo work done on my Lincoln Memorial registry sets by a fellow collector who does some amazing work. He goes by Robecs Images and I am excited to have him photograph my set. I have never been able to do my #1 ranked registry sets justice with my limited photo skills so I figured it was about time to take care of it. This is just the first image and it will take several months for him too do his magic. I will be updating the pictures in my sets as I receive the images. I hope you enjoy the picture. This weekend remember "All gave some, some gave All". As always, thanks for looking and Happy Collecting

All I can say is WOW, someone really wanted that quarter
NGC featured coin of the day on their Face Book page is an 1867 Seated Liberty quarter. I was looking through some auction records for this coin and came across something that made me go WOW. There is a NGC MS63 example of this coin that sold back in 2005 for $3220. Current value for this coin is $12,060 with a population of 2. In 2008 a PCGS MS63 example sold for $86,250. Current PCGS value is $9000 with a population of 4. All I can say is WOW someone really must have wanted that PCGS example too pay over 9 times it's list value. I am not sure if I could ever justify that on any coin that I might ever want to buy. What do you all think, would you?

Waited on these for a long time
Hi everyone. yesterday I finally received these two latest additions too my Lincoln Memorial circulation issue registry sets. They are a NGC MS69RD 1994 and 1994D Lincoln Memorial with a current population of 1 and 3 respectively. I had been paying on these two for awhile and I want to thank Mark from datentype for always being the best and working with me and many other collectors. Mark contacted me in the middle of last year and told me he had these two example coming back from NGC and asked me if I was interested. Yes I was and we made a deal. They are two very nice examples and I am really proud too add them to my sets. I hope you enjoy the pictures and as always, thanks for looking and Happy Collecting

    Always looking to upgrade
Hi everyone. Here is the latest addition to my NGC Lincoln Memorial 1959-date circulation issue registry set. It is a NGC MS66RD 1999 Wide AM Lincoln Memorial. I am replacing the MS65RD example I did have in this slot. A very nice example of this error coin. Current NGC population of 30 with 6 graded higher. I hope you enjoy the pictures and as always, thanks for looking and Happy Collecting

    Makes my eyes cross.
Hi everyone. In this Sunday's TeleTrade auction they are listing the 2nd finest graded NGC 1955 Double Die. It is only one of 2 examples graded at MS66 with this one graded MS66RB. Now this would be a dream coin for a lot of us Lincoln collectors too say the least. From the pictures I cannot tell if this coin meets the RB standard anymore but still a very impressive example of this error date Lincoln. With a starting price of $21,000 it is out of my ballpark for now. One can only dream as you never know. I hope you enjoy this picture and as always, thanks for looking and Happy Collecting

    The Hollies
Hi everyone. It has been awhile since I have posted anything to the journal boards. Today I added my latest 2 additions to my Lincoln Memorial Registry sets. I added a NGC MS67RD 1963 and a NGC MS67RD 1961 Lincoln Memorial. About 2 years ago a few fellow collectors and I got together and started helping each other on finding affordable coins for our sets. We notice that we were competing bidders on several occasions. We got together and would notify the others of which coins we were interested in bidding on. This worked great for about 2 years as there were plenty of examples every week through Ebay and the various auction houses. Recently though it seems that the majority of auction houses have raised starting prices to the point that some coins start out at more than list value. I have not bought any coins from any of the auction houses since last year. Most of the coins I have added recently have come from private sellers. On a side note, the 1963 I just added was suppose to be going to VUMC409. As most of you know due to recent health issues with Michael's wife he is having to cut back on his collecting pursuits. Michael put in a good word for me to the person that was selling this coin and we were able to work things out. I in return sent Michael my 1963 NGC MS67RB example to add to his collection. Thanks Michael for your help. Anything you need my friend, just ask. He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother. As always, thanks for looking and Happy Collecting

1889 Guatemala 1/4 real date over strike
Hi Everyone. As most of you know I collect mostly Lincoln Memorials for my registry sets. I belong to the Tampa Bay Coin Club which has been around for a very long time and we have an auction every month at our meetings to help raise funds for the club. I bought this 1889 Guatemala 1/4 real not because it fit into any of my registry sets but to support the club and also because it is silver and old. I paid $6.00. The coin itself is not very expensive at all. What I found interesting and need help with is the date over strike. Sorry about the picture but this is a very small coin but you can clearly see over strike on the date. The date is the only part of the coin that looks like this. Can any one tell me if these coins were struck in 1889 using an earlier dated example? Thaks for your help and as always thanks for looking and Happy Collecting

    Humbled to be honored
Hi Everyone. First off let me take a moment to thank all of the award winners this year. As I see the various post for congrats I take the time to view the mentioned sets and wow do we as a society have some amazing and varied collections. Some of the coins in these collections are just absolutely astonishing. Everyone of you should be proud of your accomplishments. I am myself humbled to have been recognized for 3 of my Lincoln 1959-date business strike sets. I started my quest to put together the best set I could possibly afford in 2007. I sold off a lot of raw and slabbed coins to include a short set of 34-58 NGC graded wheaties minus the 55DDO. I made that decision to pursue a set that I enjoyed and one that would be competitive. For along time Jack Ackerman held the top slots in the sets I was pursuing and I was not sure if I could put together a set that would surpass his. I was able to put together some sets last year and again this year that were recognized at the top. This past year was mostly filling in some blanks and replacing some PCGS coins with the same grade in NGC coins. Also this year most of us Lincoln Memorial business strike collectors benefited from registry points upgrades. I tried to take as many pictures as I was able to of my coins this year and did ok. Was able to put a brief description of all of the coins and need to work on both pictures and descriptions this year. I will be adding a NGC MS67RD 1961 Lincoln Memorial too my set soon. I want to recognize some of my fellow Lincoln collectors and when you get a chance take a look at their sets. Check out dcq Arareity 1 set and VUMC409 vumc409 Lincoln Modern MS#1 set. You should also check out Robert Baker Trust Trust All Cents which is just a phenomenal 1793-Date Cents Complete Circulation Issue. These collectors with a lot of others on here inspire me. I will leave you with a picture of the coin that put me over the top in 2011 and kept me there this year. It is my NGC MS68RD 1983 DDR. Again, congratulations too all of you this year and as always thanks for looking and Happy Collecting

    Hoping for the green bean
Hi Everyone. Today, I sent my first submission to CAC to see if the few modern Lincoln Memorial business strike Lincolns that I have in my collection would make the cut. I sent in the following coins and they are all Lincoln Memorials: NGC MS67RD 1970S Large Date, PCGS MS66RD+ 1972 Double Die Obverse, NGC MS68RD 1983 Double Die Reverse, NGC MS68RD 1984 Double Ear and NGC MS69RD 1995 Double Die Obverse. I know there are a lot of different opinions about CAC certification both good and bad. My local coin dealer who I like and trust is not a big fan but he also stated that most coins that are worth sending into CAC that do make the grade bring a premium when sold. I have heard a lot of naysayers make the same statement. Therefore, I made the decision to give these 5 coins a try. If they do make the grade it will just add a little more value to them and for a $50 investment I can't complain about that. I had one more that was on their list but because I believe it is toned past the red designation I did not send it in. It was my NGC MS67RD 1970S small date. Here is a picture of the reverse of my 83ddr. The scratch is on the slab. You can view all of these coins in my 1958-Date Lincoln Memorial Registry set. As always, thanks for looking and Happy Collecting
