1889 Guatemala 1/4 real date over strike
Hi Everyone. As most of you know I collect mostly Lincoln Memorials for my registry sets. I belong to the Tampa Bay Coin Club which has been around for a very long time and we have an auction every month at our meetings to help raise funds for the club. I bought this 1889 Guatemala 1/4 real not because it fit into any of my registry sets but to support the club and also because it is silver and old. I paid $6.00. The coin itself is not very expensive at all. What I found interesting and need help with is the date over strike. Sorry about the picture but this is a very small coin but you can clearly see over strike on the date. The date is the only part of the coin that looks like this. Can any one tell me if these coins were struck in 1889 using an earlier dated example? Thaks for your help and as always thanks for looking and Happy Collecting
