    Greetings all;   Hey its been awhile since my last journal so figured it was time to share another coin experience.  Just for the hell of it (call it the winter boredom blues) I decided to crack open a couple of PCGS Green Rattlers (Morgans ) I had lying around and send them in and see if they would grade higher than from back in the day.  These weren't major Morgans so I figured I would give em a shot.  I really do not recommend "breaking" out graded coins in hopes of attaining a "better" grade but it more or less was just for curiosity to see if the old adage of the PCGS green.rattler tale was true.  I submitted an 1885 that WAS graded MS64 and it came back MS65.  The other morgan was an 1884 that was graded MS64PL and it came back MS64+.  So maybe a small drop but nothing substantial.  Hope everyone is at least getting thru this winter with their wits about them and looking forward to the arrival of an early spring/  Good hunting in your quest for that next homerun coin.

    Greetings once again;
                 Was wondering (since I have no experience) selling coins thru an auction house and it sounds like they charge basically the same for the same service, which Auction house(s) would you recommend in consigning coins to ?  What has been you positive AND negative experiences with them.  Appreciate all the responses.

    Greetings all.  It has been awhile but I am back.  Have a question about American Silver Eagles.  Given the current price of silver  and what the U.S. Mint is charging for these has anyone backed off purchasing these ?  When silver was much higher they sold in the $50 range but now when silver is so low they are and have been charging the same !   Thoughts

    and wish for everyone
    Wanted to take the time to wish all my fellow collectors a very merry Christmas and joyous holiday season. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in what we do here we maybe forget the great friendships we cultivate here at the CS. Again may everyone have a great Christmas and hopefully Santa will drop something special down your chimney for that empty slot in one of you collections.
    Merry Christmas ALL !!!!!!

    Sorry for not including pics before but here they are now.
    I really hope this attains the grade I think it will. This quality of Franklin Proof does not come around often it at all and believe me as some here can attest, I have scoured the bushes and continue to in hopes of finding elusive Franklins such as this one.

    could this be a home run
    Greetings all;
    Well in my constant search for Franklin proofs, I have purchased (winning bid) one the finest Franklin proofs I have ever seen. This Franklin (1960) looks like it just came off the dies at the mint. It would rival todays SAE proofs. Oh yes and fantastic frost on the devices. I cannot wait to get this one graded. Of course with all that being said I hope I just didnt jinx this beauty.
    good luck to everyone on the judging of your sets. May you all be recognized for all your hard work.

    long overdue price adjustment
    When I checked my Franklin Proof collections this evening I was greeted with a very nice surprise. The values had finally been adjusted. Although on a few of my proofs there is really no history from auctions to tie into with for a more correct valuation but at least the values of the graded proofs are starting to show some much overdo respect in the numismatic world. Some of my coins happily received between 50 and 90 percent increase in value. I am so pumped right now that my dedication in building these sets is starting to pay off big time.

    I am now a happy camper, again
    The photo proofs arrived today and I am really impressed with the job NGC has done on them. I would urge everyone to get a few done just to highlight those special coins you have in your collection. I have attached two of the Franklins (out of five) I submitted. I put them in a collage format to save space so I hope they display halfway decent here. Again thank you to everyone on you postings and also private e-mails I received. This is a great brotherhood/sisterhood here at the board

    almost
    Came home today and found a notice in the mailbox that USPS tried to delivery a registered package form NGC Hot damn ! So they will try again tomorrow. I will post pics of a few of the photo proofs in the next few days. Again thanks everyone for the positive vibes and well wishes.
    Now I know that sometimes as a few have stated, there is no logic to how mail is routed or tracking a package

    or which way did they go ......
    Called NGC this morning and verified that they in fact had my correct mailing address on the package. Then called the local post office and they checked the status with their system. It showed it as out for delivery in Chicago on the 28th but no update since, but she said that these status updates are computer generated and to not put too much stock in them. (easy for her to say) So the onus is on the USPS at this time. I will sit here and wait for the time being. As many of you have stated, they will show up eventually (I can only hope) Will update when I have any and again thanks for the positives vibes. For now all it says is what it said before.

    Can this really be happening ??
    Greetings all,
    As you may of read from my last journal I stated I sent in 5 Franklin Proofs from my award winning set to have them Photo-Proof and then sent back to me. I just checked the status of the shipment and it says, Out for delivery today in Chicago. One thing, I DO NOT LIVE in Chicago.... In this set was a few very rare Franklins that you just cant replace like that. Also the FMV that NGC places on these Franklins is so far off it is ridiculous. That is because they havent been up for auction in years. I really hope they sent me the wrong tracking number and didnt send my coins to someone else. Say it aint so NGC ....

    after reading Coin928 journal
    I was so impressed with the presentation that coin928 shared with us in their journal I too decided to submit 5 Franklins from my winning set of Best Presented to NGC for the Deluxe Photo Proofs. I am anxiously awaiting the return of the coins with the photo proofs.

    Anyone looking for one
    Was clearing out some of the closet and found I still had one case from the 25th Anniversary SAE set. If anyone is interested in purchasing the case ONLY hit me up. I know it probably doesn't need to be stated but no, it doesn't include coins or air-tites.

    Wanted to do this for a long time
    As promised and following others lead here, I can now expose my "other" new found hobby funded in part by the partial sale of my Kennedy Collection. I am in the home stretch of my new car. Well actually not new, it's a 1923 Ford Model T Bucket. I have been modifying it for the last 2 months getting ready for upcoming car shows. It has a 383 Chevy Stroker engine with competition cam. Put in a brand new Eaton Posi rear-end with 3.55 gears and just mounted the brand hew Mickey Thompson street radials on it tonight. There are much more details about my new 23 T but this gives you an idea of how I will be spending my summer

    Never seen this before
    Greetings once again my fellow collectors. It has been awhile since I last posted as I have been really busy pursuing another adventure I have had for a long time (more on that later this week)
    I was on the phone talking to another long time member here on the CS the other night about Franklin Proofs and when I went to look up the FMV for a particular year I couldn't believe what I was looking at. There was NO Red (decrease in FMV) in the whole series. ONLY Green (FMV going up) I have known for awhile that Franklins were becoming more popular in the collection world but WOW, this was a really fantastic surprise. Looks like many collectors have listen and gotten in on this collection before it really goes thru the roof. I for one am glad I got in on Franklin Proofs before the upswing started. I hope to ride this "wave" for a long time as it looks like it is just the beginning.

    Results are in "as the coin turns"
    Received the 1958 Franklin Proof I bought the other day that was listed using a strange photo, anyway strange looking to me. Well, I now can report that it was the way the photo was taken. It is not a new variety, (boo) but nothing ventured, nothing gained, right ?! I have included the photo (again) that was used in the ad beside a photo of the coin I took tonight so you can see. FYI the ad photo is on the left.

    From Coin World Mar. edition
    In my earlier journal about the Franklin gmarguli responded with why make a counterfeit Franklin and rightly so. I mean I would think if you were going to go to the great lengths to reproduce a coin you would choose something that you would have a chance on realizing a greater profit from, right ?! Well, in the latest issue of Coin World is an article about this young man in Texas that was apprehended making counterfeit Prospector silver rounds. Pawn shops actually took them in. Given the value of today's silver you're talking roughly 30 - 35 dollars ea. Not much different than a Franklin. My point being, it necessarily isn't the value of what the piece is you are trying to replicate, man has been making counterfeit items for as long as any item has had some intrinsic value to someone else. I really doubt that the Franklin is counterfeit, but I have never and I mean never seen a photo that threw up so many red flags before and believe me I have looked at thousands and thousands of Franklin photo's over the last 2 years. I just received notice today that it is on the way so by next week I along with everyone here will know if it was in fact the way the photo was taken, orrrrrr, it is a new variety, orrrrrrr, it is a fake. Tune in next week for the next episode of "As the Coin Turns".

    Here you can see
    a side by side comparison. Now you can see how strange this coin on the left looks compared to one of my graded Franklins which is on the right
