SOO much to learn!

SOO little time! I have learned more in the past month that i have been a member of NGC now that i did in the past few years from collectors and dealers in my area! Just when i thought i was getting a good eye for this hobby or when i think im getting a good "deal" or coin, i found out something i didnt want to find out! ha! Like buying cleaned coins! I have a couple now that i purchased a while back that were bought at a FRACTION of the value! I think it was a good deal, then i find out

im stuck at a stand still

Looking for a new road to ride down I have come to a point where I don't know which direction I want to take in this hobby. I try to focus my attention on one set at a time and now that I can't go any further at this point I need to find a new direction. basically I started with 4 sets. The Wheat pennies, Indian Heads, Washington quarters and Morgan, Philly date set. I have the wheats fully completed, all except the 55 DD, which I have no intentions on buying now. My Indian heads are full

1916 D is completed!

SHe is on her way home I just got the update and e-mail saying that my 1916 D mercury dime is finished on its way home! She graded "AU Details." I truly was hoping just to have it come back genuine and possibly an XF details. I am very happy with the results! I have a fellow collector who keeps wanting to buy it....I told him that i really dont want to but i am always open to listening what he has to say. There is always a price! It has some damage but it is a high grade for that coin! NGC pr

morgan dollar set

new goal in my quest to finish this set I picked this coin up recently and when i did i decided to focus on the Morgans as separate date sets, each set being a different Mint. I am doing this because 1. I already started the sets as a date set, only buying Philly mints, and 2. it will help keep me focused rather than scattered all around. I fully accept that i will never own the 1895 Pf, but I am most worried about the 1894 P. It will take some patience and i may have to put a hold on buying

2004 ASE

AT or NT? what do you guys think? AT or NT? i picked this up today. Coin shop near me, guy picked up a whole bunch of GEM ASE's different dates. This one stood out the most. I really liked the colors and i do NOT normally buy toned coins due to the fact that i cannot tell the difference between NT or AT all that well, so i could use some of your opinions. thanks Nick To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. looking for a 1 oz gold

im not sure if this is the place for this... I apologize if this is innapropriate for this but i have been really dying for a 1 oz gold coin, whether it be a buffalo or eagle. I just think they are beautiful! Anyway, i decided today that i would like to try and trade. I have a 20" 14k gold figarro necklace that weighs exactly 42 grams, or in coin i have a PCGS certified XF45 1909 s VDB lincoln penny, PCGS 1914 D graded VG 10, 1909 s I.H. in an old green PCI holder graded VF 20, lets see.... al

BeawChan, this is for you

This is the picture of the penny i found that i told you about in my reply to your entry... I found this a few weeks ago in a box a pennies. About a week later, i found a blank planchet as well! I buy 1 box a week and usually find at least 8-15 wheats on average and sometimes a cool error of some kind.. Nick To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. The anticipation begins...

MY first 16 D finally made it to the show! I sent out my first 1916 D merc last Saturday. I spent good money to have it shipped as i have had bad luck with USPS lately. Anyway, I knew it was going to be much slower but under lock and key so it was much safer. So i see that it made it to Sarasota today and has been logged in as received! Im keeping my fingers crossed. I know its going to be "details" graded but the thing has gotta be damn near AU!! Minimum XF-AU. It was givin to me as an inheri

"details"

Coins that have been cleaned or that have some minor corrosion, should they all be overlooked? over the past 6 months or so, i picked up a couple of the more valuable I.H. pennies such as the 1870, 1871, and 1873 "closed 3". These coins were bought with minor corrossion on them, but i got them at 1/3 of the price at which they were worth, plus they were all XF, easy. The 1864 with L, has VERY MINOR corrosion. These coins are all still very GREAT coins and the corrodded spots are mostly around

Where are my manners?

I jusr recently joined NGC collectors society! Hello all, I just want to say to everyone that i just recently joined your ranks. I have been collecting for about 3 years now. I picked up the passion when i found out i was having a child and i realized i had nothing to pass on to him/her. The funny thing is i randomly chose coin collecting! I am 28 years old and live in upstate New York. I currently am into lincoln wheats, Indian Heads, Washington 25c, and just recently started my silver

1916 d

my 1st 16D merc! I just sent my new 1916 D mercury dime off to be certified. It will definetly come back "details" as it has some obverse damage. It appears to be from an old fashioned coin machine of some kind. I was told the damage was from when the machine is full you would use a screw to push the dimes down, to get your 5 dollars. The damage is of a circle that looks as if made from a screw. Anyway. i got it for a good price and the dime is got to be at least XF-AU details! i would guess l
