The only thing "special" about the coins in the Mint's PNCs are that they are from the first day of mintage for business strikes. Other than that, they are business strikes, can be any pair of coins from a single run with the pair of dies, and can be low MS quality.

Some people may want the "FIRST DAY OF MINTAGE" pedigree. I am not one of them, but you cannot knock NGC from trying to extend their brand!

One difference is the full-cover color graphic which will be different per President. The SHQ FDCC envelopes are kind of bland and look the same from one to another. I think the Mint is learning from their SHQ FDCC experience which is a good thing.

As for certifying the coins in the covers, people were asking about it before the service was announced. NGC has generally catered to using different form factors to meet collector demand, including multi-holders, GSA Morgans and Brown Box Ikes.

Looks like they are using their PMG currency slab for them. Those aren't too secure looking. I was hoping for an NGC multi-coin slab without the coin core.

Well I got my one set in yesterday. The D mint looks about MS63 and the Pmint looks better. Almost to go MS64-65. Oh well, left the plastic on it and put it away.

Interesting-----Maybe stamp grading will be next for NGC. Can PCGS be far behind ?
Collectors/customers asked for this FDCC packaging.

PCGS does grade stamps. From what I've heard, that service is very tiny and the industry doesn't like it.

I am normally not one to disagree with anothers oppinion as we all have our own on most things. I have at least 2 full sets of SQ FDC's,and that's not counting the ones I have never opened, and as a rule I find the coins in them to be of higher quality than a random bank wrapped roll of business strikes. Not always, but most of the time. I would be willing to bet money that if you had 50 GW FDC's and a roll each of P & D dollars, you would more than likely find many more higher grade coins in the covers than you will in the rolls or bags. Now I'm not saying this will hold true 100% of the time... but , MOST of the time the coins in the FDC's (at least in the Quarter covers) this has been my finding. My order of GW dollar covers just arrived today so I hope I have not just stuck my foot in my mouth..lol..going to pick some out with nice square corners to stick away and unzip some of them to see if the same holds true for these. I will say I am so not impressed with the photo of the graded cover that started this thread. Good luck to all in their collecting. CC

Was it ICG that was going to possibly grade and slab Casino chips but due to the outrage of the collector community dumped the idea either shortly after starting to do so or right before?

It's all fun- if that's what you like. It's also all nonsense.

Fun nonsense! crazy.gif

ICG did grade Casino Chips at one point. There were lots of threats of never doing business with any dealer who slabbed or sold any graded chips. I'm not sure if they still do, but I assume they do. I'll have to test a few out on my next submission. smile.gif

This Harrah's Gaming Piece is in with this 1965 set of coins.

Does this mean I can get it graded with the others??? 27_laughing.gif27_laughing.gif

Somewhere there is a story and reason behind why this piece is with these coins, I just can't remember what it was.

Yeah,

Colonial guys raised a ruckus too when PCGS announced they were going to grade Colonials years back.

Classic guys raised cain when NGC announced, years ago, they were going to grade (but not list in their population reports!) post 1964 coins.

(I remember a thread or two Founding Father started across the street regarding this debacle.)

I think of ICG as the Mikey of the Slab world... they'll grade anything!

Of course, looking at all the offerings available now with specialty slab inserts all the Services are offering, ICG soon won't be alone.

Ok... rambling is over...

I just received 20 of thes first day covers in todays shippment. The question I have is .... to grade or not to grade. It is my intention to sell these at some time in the future to get capital for Pre-1933 Gold $20 coins. I am quite new to collecting and just happened to order these First Day Covers at the right time.

That's a hard call seeings how these things aren't grading very high. I would think that the sealed sets with no grade may sell faster than a sealed set with a low grade. confused-smiley-013.gif
