Lookie what I found!

I know it's not a super rarity, or even a modern rarity, but it's really nice to find a key date coin in change once in a while!

Cool find. Wanna know what's terrible? I keep a magnifying glass in the car. Seems I'm always curious what my change looks like. grin.gif

Jeff,

It's a good feeling when you find a coin like that isn't it? I just received another 1964 silver quarter in change on Monday. It’s my third in the past two months. I haven’t received silver in change for years and all of a sudden I get three silver quarters in change within two months! cloud9.gif

I sure hope my streak continues! smirk.gif

John,

Other than silver halves from the bank, I so rarely get any silver in change, so count your lucky stars! I did get a silver dime from the local Albertson's about 2 years ago, but I think my last silver quarter came from a roll that I got for laundry about 7 years ago I think, all I know is that it was 3 states ago in my moving history! This is a nice coin to find, and it seems that about the only series that still has some better dates floating around is Jeffersons (who said having the same design for 65 years is a bad thing?) in fact, my entire collection was found in circulation, except for the 50-D which I had to buy, but every other date and mintmark I've found in circulation at one time or another. This one happens to be a lot better than the one in my Dansco album (despite the crud on the back), so guess where this one is headed! grin.gif

Wow... that one is NICE for a circulation find. Most of the ones I've seen that are any older than 1970 tend to look like they've been beat and abused over the course of their life. That one looks NICE.

Very cool! Looks like someone had it taped to an album or something as it appears to have tape residue on it. I received a clad proof NJ state quarter in change about a year ago from the local pizza place.

Very nice find Jeff! smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif

That darn date/mint can be very elusive in good circulated grades and that one looks like a beauty! I personally never tire of such finds.

The search for such cins is a blast in change. I find myself almost always giving dollar bills out to cashiers so that I can get change! blush.gif I virtually never get anything, but I must look like a fool checking evry handful of change with great scrutiny! I always look for Jeffs and silver, but also for rotated dies and doubled die Lincoln cents!!! laugh.giflaugh.gif

I am not sure if it is tape on the reverse. It could be, but I just gave it a nice bath with some soap and water, and here's how it came out:

Now normally I am against cleaning, but I figure with this coin, the worst that can happen is it's worth a nickel again, so I breakeven! tongue.gif

Jeff - Try acetone. If it's tape, it will come off with a gentle finger.

Do you still have it? I'm putting together a set.

It comes with its own Registry Set.

Greg, you should have the "after" image of the NH quarter with your set, it would look great! I'll look for the coin and send it to you if I can find it. You're on your own, however, in getting it slabbed! 893whatthe.gif

Way to go!! Nice find.

Jefferson nickels still hold chances at finding hits like this one.

This is the coin I recommend to newbies to keep them interested in our hobby.

Just go to any bank and get all the rolls you need.

Easy to search, cheap, and lots of dates to be found.

But, I would take a guess, this will most likely change when (finally) the Mint comes out with a new redesigned nickel.

Greg, What the heck is that? i hope it was free !

It's a pop 1 coin. Pop one coins are extremely rare. This special Bottom Pop™ coin is very special and rare and that is why I had it slabbed. 893whatthe.gif

I was playing the nickle machines at an Atlantic City Casino a couple of years ago, I won a small jackpot of a few hundred nickles. Out popped a buffalo nickle. Where did that come from??????
