1960 Jefferson Nickel Question

Hi Folks,

I was going through some spare change and came across this 1960 Jefferson Nickel.

The reverse side top left of the buiplding looks like something is going on there, and the Mint Mark also looks a little off, I know part of it is probably coin contact but it does look to be something else as well.

As always, always looking forward to feedback.

This 1960 D Jefferson nickel has some mechanical doubling as already noted. The mintmark looks to me to have taken a hit while in circulation. As to the placement of the mintmark being "off", there are variances in the placement of the mintmark as it was applied by hand to the dies. Mintmarks were applied by hand to dies on all coins up until about 1985 for proof coins and about 1991 for regular business strikes at which time in each respective year, they were added to the master die which eliminated differences in position, depth, repunched, and overmintmark punches in the dies, standardizing all mintmarks from then on and virtually eliminating varieties for differing mintmarks.
