1955 D Penny Question
1 1

8 posts in this topic

Hello again,

I have a 1955 D Lincoln Penny.

I tried to take pictures from different angles in order to help provide feed back.

I want to say they are die cracks, but could just be PMD such as coin scapes.

Thoughts?

What you have are scratches, a die crack would be raised.
What you do have is a die chip between the B and I that is known as a BIE

Please post photos of each full side of a coin about which you have questions.

Your presumably 1955-D Lincoln cent exhibits die chips of a sort that are very common on coins from the 1950s and early 1960s on both sides. The chip between the "B" and "E" of LIBERTY was once referred to as a "BIE" or "LIBIERTY" cent and was collected as a fad mostly from the 1950s to 1970s but are now considered too common to be of much interest or value. They are still collected by some as a novelty. See my topic on this subject:

Cool! I have yet to come across a BIE. While it is very common as a find as noted, I still think it would be nice if I had one.
