Never clean your coins. Wrong. Never Improperly clean your coins. Lesson 1: Using Acetone to clean a coin.

I have used Acetone dipping method on every raw coin I buy before placing it into a new 2x2 (never know who touch those coins with their oily fingers or how they were stored over all the years) , I used hardware 100% acetone same as finger nail polish remover but I was told nail polish remover is sometimes water down version unless it says 100% it’s the same stuff as hardware store but more expensive just better to buy a big can from the hardware store …..

I’ve used MS70 coin brighter only on silver coins they say to use it with Q-tip sorta roll the Q-tip with no pressure although I won’t use it on PROOF coin I’ve used it on mint state coins it does remove surface contaminant and crude leaving coin’s natural look (so it doesn’t remove toning) Q-tip should NOT leave hairline unless someone is rubbing hard and too aggressive it pick up the contaminant on coin and dragging it harshly over coin’s surface will leave hairlines … however if a proof coin or MS coin is spotty or hazy (unattractive looking) they get dipped in e-Z-est 3-1 ratio very very watered down (2 parts Distilled water to 1 part e-Z-est) followed by 2 jars of hot distilled water for after wash … reason for hot distilled water is it will evaporate quickly no need to pat the coin dry …. You can follow off lastly with a quick dip in acetone if you have too

I DO NOT RECOMMEND NEW COLLECTORS TO CLEAN OR ATTEMPT TO DIP ANY COIN !!! if you’re curious use some old junky silver coins (do not use copper or bronze coins) water down your solutions down !!! Don’t leave a coin in solution too long it will look washed out and ruined (hence the reason to water down a solution in first place) dealers and collectors been dipping coins for years but there’s a certain way to do it and only certain coins benefit from dipping and not all coins should be dipped

🐓:. Well, you renewed your membership.  Might as well make the most of it...

Q.A.:  I will.  I am.  See that large white envelope from NGC that came in the other day?  It contains submission forms.  There are a few coins I would like to submit.

I hope the members who weighed in upthread know what they're talking about because I would like to breathe life into an eclectic mix of coins.

I learned a few things. Vinegar will turn copper coins into a shade of pink more suitable for the Pride Month parade.  Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) is an exceptionally useful substance.  Acetone I know nothing about, but I am ready to get some + distilled water. We will see.

Are the coins worthy of submission?  To me, yes, but I am unable to articulate why. Submission will largely depend on my negligible conservation skills.

Don't forget the Q-Tips, sandpaper and toothpaste. :eyeroll:

🐓  :  Hey Q, guess who reconsidered his decision to Ignore you?

Q.A.:  I see.  I guess after that Newbie posted a pornographic coin on his Topic recently, he accepted the possibility there are worse things out there than you and me.  :roflmao:

I do not plan to use any of the the things you cite. I used Brillo ©️ decades ago on the giant coin I posted on the Copper thread today and would like to see if an acetone bath and a warmed distilled water rinse will breathe life into it. No surgical tools required.

When I acquired the Newgate prison token from a seller on eBay at a whopping 25% off (I deliberately lied and told him his price did not reflect its FMV) the real reason was because the photo depicted a JET-BLACK coin in a cardboard flip. When I got it and held it in front of my eyes, it was JET-BLACK.  When I removed it from its holder, it was JET-BLACK and I barely made out the image, date and words on the back.

I remembered Just Bob's advice on using olive oil and, much to my surprise, I found the preservation of its surface to be pristine. No chatter whatsoever in the fields. I took a clear photo and posted it on JB's token thread. None of any of the similar offerings on eBay were equal to or surpassed its superior condition -- or price. It would not be cost effective to submit it, but I intend to.  I MARCH TO THE BEAT OF A DIFFERENT DRUM.  :hi:

My mistake. You make it clear that you should be ignored.
