Cams
Hi- in all the coins I've been going through, haven't come across anything like this ( including looking online) - has anyone seen this before & is it a minting error? It's actually in decent shape, but om a newbie & wanted to know the professionals thoughts- TIA
Popular Post J P M
I see all kinds of Jefferson nickels every day and I can say without a doubt you coin has been damaged. We call it PMD ( Post Mint Damage ) Sandon, Mike Meenderink and The Neophyte Numismatist
Sandon
The coin just took two big hits on its edge after it left the mint, as indicated by the displacement of metal with the previously struck design elements underneath. The only error it remotely resembles, a rim "cud" from a piece broken off of the die, would not show a depression on the rim itself.
RWB
Damage is unique to each coin, but it is not an error and has no value whatever.
Greenstang
Lots of damage (PMD) on both sides of that nickel. What you have is impossible to happen during the striking of the coin.
powermad5000
Heavy, heavy damage. Most of us would call that a "parking lot" coin. Definitely not an error. Just severely damaged.
