Just a damaged cent, the copper has been ground or scraped off exposing the zinc underneath. Those are the vertical stripes of the shield you see in the center.

   I see no evidence of this coin having been struck by any dies other than Lincoln cent dies. Some of the copper plating was then removed by physical and/or environmental damage.
