Help with labelling, grading, and pricing draped bust 1796
1 1

10 posts in this topic

Hello. I want to sell this 1796 draped bust coin and need help with it. I think it's small letters, small date. I don't know if it's considered a dime or half dime.

I would like to know what grade it would be considered as, and what would be the average selling/buying price.

Also it would be nice if someone could suggest me the best places and ways to sell it around Washington, DC.

Thank you.

Thanks everyone for gently pointing that out. Yes, it seems a very obvious replica. I have no knowledge on coins, so I didn't immediately figure that out.

Where or when did you get it ?  How much did you pay ?

Unfortunately, your "coin" is a crude counterfeit, probably of a Draped Bust, Small Eagle reverse silver dollar based on your photos

If it were a legit coin, then raw...how much would it have been worth ?  Ballpark.....

It isn't just a replica. It is a counterfeit coin. Selling it would be against the law.

It is difficult to assign a grade that would pertain to a genuine example to this counterfeit piece.  Much of its roughness, discoloration, and uneven or incorrect details relate to its being a (probably cast) counterfeit than to environmental or other damage or alterations that may befall a genuine coin.

An unimpaired 1796 silver dollar currently lists $2,150 Very Good, $4,000 Fine, $4,900 Very Fine, and $10,250 Extremely Fine in the NGC Price Guide (retail prices).
