What type of corrosion

What type of corrosion usually causes the inner copper layer to be eaten out of a quarter? Ive seen them like this before and was just curious. Do you reckon it was exposed to some type of acid? I googled it and couldnt find any results. I know its not worth anything. Just a badly damaged quarter. Just wondering what eats up the copper inside. Thank you for any feedback. Lumii_20230103_183400986.thumb.jpg.2a3eab68c265890488eff00819c9592d.jpgLumii_20230103_183341559.thumb.jpg.e7d486827f0ec468edadd83fb6b380ce.jpg76940127_RoundPhoto_Jan032023_183234.thumb.png.1d8221d9752f062f21b31de6e44d39a9.pngCompress_20230103_184017_7349.thumb.jpg.87fe4e20533b62a4039933feea133aa4.jpg

Thank you all. Acid was one of the first things I was thinking of. I was thinking it may have laid in some kind a corrosive liquid for quite a long time. Something thats more corrosive to copper than nickel.

Most of the commonly known  acids will do precisely this, given enough time.
