On the obverse of this 2021 "CROSSING THE DELAWARE " quarter, there appears to be a die gouge traveling down George Washington's eye 👁?  If so I think I'll call it the crying George? It also seems to have some doubling on letters on the obverse and reverse? I'm new at collecting, but tell me what you guys think. Thanks 😊

P.S. As a bonus, I also found this 2022 "DROOLING MAYA ANGELOU" quarter.

Welcome, It is a die chip on George. Most of the ones out there will not make the coin worth any more money. You can still save it if you like it is a good onelol

Thank you very much for looking at them. Is the Washington Crossing Delaware quarter a die gouge or scratch coming from eye?

It is most likely a scratch, A die crack or a gouge like that would be a hum dinger. Is the metal raised?

Under my coin microscope it appears to be raised and also dung into at other locations along its path?

Sounds like a scratch to me.

Hard to say for sure from the photo but it sounds like a scratch. The incuse part would be the scratch an d the raised part would be the displaced metal unlike a die gouge that would only be raised.

Thank you so much for your insight without sarcasm and for trying to help by truly answering the questions and not attacking the person who is asking.

Speaking on behalf of the American Sarcastics Society, frequently known by our acronym, I object strenuously.

image.jpeg.841177e537a87b2fda39ccb2705eccef.jpegI believe I saw somewhere that the Mint was doing some work on the dies to combat this chipping issue on the 2023 coins. A bit of a redesign or retooling with the mouth area. Guess we will see if it works out or not.

...I will keep my eyes open for it, and thank you for the information. Hopefully with the correction these minor errors I'm finding will pay off for someone else in the future.

Maybe, but doubtful. Minor errors need buyers to become valuable. There are faaaaar more “finders” than “buyers”, so each new one found actually LOWERS their value. Simple supply and demand. There simply is a lack of demand for these things.

They need to do something to the dies that strike the dimes. They are pitiful. Every other one has some kind of die chip on it somewhere. The mint is lacking on quality control very bad. They seem to overuse the dies quite often also.

...I agree 👍 I have come across several 2022 dimes with die chips.

Strike the last three words and that’s my view.
