1911 satin proof in a bezel 😕

I do not believe a missing retaining tab on one side can explain the extensive, fairly even, long-term erosion, on both sides of the coin.  Editorially speaking, a bezel, and particularly one that, as here, appears to have been beveled, is not a suitable receptacle for any coin, much less one with collector value. In fact, I believe I can safely say, no coin mounted in an open-faced, otherwise unprotected BEVELED BEZEL has ever successfully withstood the ravages of time and wear exposed to the elements.  [And wearing such a coin accessorized as jewelry, is unbecoming and downright unconscionable.]

Note:  No mention of "satin," "sandblast," or "proof" was made in the official autopsy report.  😉
