Popular Post jtryka
It may not be news which directly impacts most of us, but since her image adorned billions of coins and notes for the past 70 years, it's certainly a historic day. Charles is now King, presumably Charles III but it will likely be another year or so until his coronation and perhaps a couple years before his image graces any coins. Member: Seasoned Veteran Popular Post DWLange Posted September 8, 2022 Member: Seasoned Veteran Popular Post Share Posted September 8, 2022 Elizabeth II was queen longer than I've been alive, and that's quite a reign. At 96 she wasn't exactly cut down in her prime, but it's still a time of reflection. As a collector of British coins (no decimals, please) I have some really nice examples of her early coinage. Modwriter
I have noticed Queen Elizabeth's portrait has changed through the years. I have sold several QEII British Commonwealth coins in the past and now have only Canadian coins. Quintus Arrius

Interestingly, the last was never used in the U.K., but was used at least in Australia. Modwriter and Quintus Arrius

They don’t release them until the current year, many times at January F.U.N. Having 2023 coins delivered in September 2022 is obscene. Fenntucky Mike
Neither Charles or William are good candidates for attractive portraits on coinage. That's already been proven.

That's a fair point, however I don't recall them being released to the public prior to January. A number of world mints, however, release coinage well ahead of the year presented on the respective coins.

Perhaps just leave QEII as currently depicted, update the text and have Charles III's portrait off to the side as a miniscule privy.

I think there is enough time remaining in 2022 so that it would be possible for all actual circulating 2023 coins to depict Charles III if such a thing can be done pre-Coronation by tradition. The Coronation will probably be in the Spring. The new technology of coin creation makes it trivially easy for all 2023 circulating coinage to be Charles III. A nearly current effigy already exists in the Royal Mint’s sculpture art collection Edited September 9, 2022 by VKurtB
