Have any of you ever be on a cruise?

The ones that I went on would have nickel slots and when they paid out there would be bright shiny coins flashing in the light as they fell. Every single one would look like this coin.  They were cleaned and polished every time before they were put in the machines. So my first guess is that you have the wrong laundry machine in mind.

Interesting. I wonder if someone could assemble a sort of index to the causes of repetitive coin damage? Might be a small but interesting general reference.

Never been on a cruise, and no plans to ever do so, but I have been to a casino with nickel slots, and you’re right.

Well I went to all the dang trouble to find this thing. So I’m gunna share it because I can’t control OP meltdown but it’s a fun coin.
Also, asked the boss lady about dryers and such and she pretty much said “guys” don’t always empty the pockets. The water holds everything in place in the washer but the dryer is where stuff falls out. 😉🙀🦫

Nice. Did this rattle around in the dryer tub, or was it caught in moving machinery....Good start to an illustrated guide to mechanical damage. :)

(If someone will put it together and long with accurate explanations, I'll publish it.)

Blow me haters

Incase you missed it, at the top of the page of the forum, what you need to know about posting coin for inquiry by JKK says in there,

1. Tell us what you know, or what you believe to be the case, about the coin. It's okay to be incorrect.

2. Come prepared to accept responsive answers.

Of course there's other good one's, but these two I see alot of newbies either not seeing or skipping this part.

Obviously everyone is familiar with this coin you have in hand. Just saying.

The coin came to me in change years ago. I always imagine that is what a dryer coin would look like. Its smooth and has some interesting features. Just not a belt sander look.
If needed for reference I’ll gladly take some better pictures.
Funny thing I remember about it (it’s been 20 years) is after I checked my change it was counted as a dime😂

It would be great to have a thread pinned to the top of the newbie section with several examples of damaged coins. Give them something to compare theirs to before they post. Give explinations and examples of possibilities. And tell them theirs didnt leave the mint looking like those. Just a thought. May not be a very good idea. Sounded good while I was thinking about it. It may be boring and some may think its not very useful. I dont  know if it good or not really. Sounded good after a couple sips of homemade wine.

Had several drier coins that I put into rolls a few weeks back. Should have kept them for drier coin education thread……………….

Very good idea. That was kinda what I was gettin at earlier. Will let newbies see and compare their coins. Ive seen several post their PMD coins the whole time Ive been here. . Show drier coins and explain, few pics parking lot coins and explain, ground on coins, etc, etc. Then put in the "before you post thread" to compare their coins to ones in the "PMD thread first" before asking about it. Will help newbies who are shy about posting also. Ones just looking through threads for coins to compare theirs to. I was like that for a while. I read the forum for months before I made my first post. I always was shy around people I dont know until I get to know them more.

I should have saved them for referance but I never thought and put them back in circulation.

Great Hog.... JUST GREAT!!!!! And one of those coins you "put back into circ." just happened to find its way in the pocket of a newb here on the forum. As a result, it upset them because they were already MEGA RICH in their own mind from this "one of a kind error".  Super job brother!!!!

(just couldn't resist bustin your chops my friend with some humor.... I've been away from the forum for awhile handling some other things.  Good to be back)👍

Those individuals have been challenged and wrong before.  Just because they write books and articles doesn't mean they're perfect.  Trust me, there's a political angle and professional competition in everything they do in this industry.

I know.

I think I'll trust the editors of error-ref (Weinberg, Byers, Sullivan, et al,) to be right a lot more than being wrong.

Do you really believe they write to appease the numismatic political element at the expense of accuracy? If I did that in my field of study, I would quickly lose all credibility (as some have done)
