2008-P Arizona quarter "Double Extra Cactus Leaf" die chip 1 1

Since there's a big hype on Extra Cactus Leaf, thought I would show a double. My question is ,how did they figure out to call it this. Obviously it looks just like a rock. Cool find though.

Quite interesting since technically cacti do not have “leaves”

Botanically speaking, the spines are the leaves.  I don't know this variety - fun!

Because calling it a "Rock on a cactus" variety wouldn't generate enough hype to convince new collectors that such a rare and valuable variety is really just a minor chip

A book about cacti has leaves, though....

But look at that "Secret M" put there by a rogue sculptor engraver who worked on the design but did nto get official credit -- or even a vending machine coupon.

Thanks everyone, I know die chips are genuine errors,  but didn't know collector's look down on these types of errors on coins.

I don't think collectors look down on them, it's just that they are a common error.  And common stuff doesn't command much, if any premium, especially when it's being hyped with clever names to confuse new collectors

Its the hype that experienced collectors dislike.
